So i am going to be heavily modding my mustang and would like some advice on what order I should do it in. Currently I have a red 2004 v6 and the only mods I have done so far is putting on 18x9 cobra r rims, lowered an inch with ford racing c springs, pypes o/r x pipe with magnaflow magnapack, shorty antenna.
Plans for drive train are rebuilding a 8.8" rear end and putting a ford racing t loc with a 31 spline axle, t56 tranny. Plans for an engine is a 5.4L supercharged but the engine is going to be my last mod. Plans for exterior are cobra front and rear bumper, 04 gt side scoops, steeda functional race wing, GT hood, tinted windows. Plans for interior 2005+ gauges, already have Alcantara seats with red stitching, any other ideas? Suspension not really sure about, ideas?:spankit

youl want to upgrade your suspension for a 5.4L. The 8.8 rear ends already have a tlok in them so you just need gears for it (assuming your using a mustang one anyway).

The reason I am putting a new t lok in is because the stock one is set up for a 28 spline axle and I want to put a 31 spline axle so I also need the ford racing t lok. The reason I am upgrading the axle and t lok is because my goal for the 5.4 is over 550 lb/ft and the stock 28 spline will likely be trash after enough hard lauches.
edit: I am pretty sure the 2001+ rear ends have a 31 spline axle but I am getting a 99 rear end for 200 dollars.

ah i missed that, sounds pretty awesome though. what type of 5.4 engine you gonna use? Also with all that money you may be able to just buy a cobra :p

Agreed. Unless you are dead set on swapping a 5.4 in, I would say it would be more sost/time effective to buy a mustang with a 4v and boost it. I would say for with an auto mach 1.

I decided to go with the 4.6L 4V and I know I could probably buy a cobra or GT but my favorite things to do are working on my car and building choppers. The size of the project is what makes me want to do it the most. Swapping out the entire drivetrain and engine is something I am really looking forward to doing this winter when my car is parked in the garage safe from all the snow. I have 3-4 months to finish it so time isn't a problem. I will be a senior in high school this year and have an excellent job so half my money from there goes to my car.

What kind of job could you possibly have in high school where you only need half of your paychecks to buy all the stuff needed for this in 3-4 months?

Good question. Those 4v V8 engines are expensive. Since I bought my sixxer I've been workin almost full time and I couldn't afford to do **** to my car if it wasn't for my grants for school (yeah I bought just what I needed and put the rest into the car :p grants are awesome). I'm working full time now (no weeks with less hours) and I'm still going to need a good sized loan to buy the Mach I want.

Yeah, I'm going into grade 12 at the end of the summer and I'm working full time until then. I'm making $1750 a month over summer and there is not a hope I could afford a 5.4 swap even with all of the cash lol

In my area I've found a lot of used parts and stuff for my car for dirt cheap. I just found an 8.8" rear axle assembly out of a 99 GT with ABS for $100. I am a 4.0 student and involved with a ton of extra curricular and second in my class so I am doing my best to get a full scholarship for Milwaukee School of Engineering. I also live on a farm and been working since I was 12 and the last three years I have worked full time in the summer for $11.5 an hour. Gotta love farms. :)

I can see what you mean 01stang but i love the satisfaction of seeing something you put alot of time and hard work into come out as a final product. :yes And if I put in a 6 speed and a 4.6 4v that pretty much makes it a cobra besides my non-independent rear suspension so the badges really wouldn't be fake.

:withhomo it's so much better to put work into your car, compared to spending a ton on an already fast one. You love your car so much more once you have done the work to it.

Oh please drop the ricer mentality.

Its still not a cobra.

Why would I buy a cobra and spend extra money on parts that I will be replacing with aftermarket ones. For example you pay more for the cobra brakes then the V6 ones but I am putting bigger brakes in on all 4 corners. Another example is the suspension, cobra suspension costs more then the V6 suspension and right now I am in the middle of replacing the whole rear suspension set up with components from Griggs racing. So my mustang base coupe will be better then a cobra. I'm just saying...:D

well a real cobra is documented and just having the satisfaction of a real one is the way i would go and pretty much everyone else to. now a stock cobra is still running hot just stock and you wouldnt half to put as much work into aftermarket parts into a gt or cobra like your v6 becuase they get more bang for your buck and mods for v8's go further... just my 2 cents
