Hopefully the drag guys will have some more input than the tech guys on this. My plan is to find some cheap V6 16in wheels for track use because my 60'ft times arent cutting it with 17in bfg dr's. So my question is which would be a better Mickey Thompson to run with my set up (420rwhp 3:73's control arms..etc) the ET Streets Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels or the ET Street Radial Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels
Both are roughly the same price, although some say you need a tube for the ET Streets and some say you dont :confused: Hopefully I dont

when i was only a cai, mail order tune, little suspension, stock 3.55's i was using stock V6 rims (16") with MT ET Streets 26x10.5 and it was almost perfect. i was going high 12.8's to low 12.9's @ 105. no need for tubes with them. when i put 4.10's in i ended up going into 4th at the very last second and it screwed me all up. i sold them because the size was no longer going to work for me. now have 28x10.5 et drag's. still need wheels for these though.

i'd get the et streets, but i'm not sure what the gearing in your tranny is or what the stock hight your tires were so i'd ask around a bit.

Its a 5 speed with a Spec Stg 3 clutch

slicks for sure......stick shift + power + DRs is a bad combo. You "can" get those MT DRs to hook with a dialed in suspension and your power level, but they won't be consistent and will rely heavily on a good track prep. I just went through a set of them on my car and am 10x happier with my new set of slicks

Oh and, I don't know anyone who actually runs tubes in their et streets. Keep in mind the tread width on the et street is quite a bit more narrow than the section width. Just something to keep in mind when selecting a size. I ended going with the Hoosier QTPs cause the contact patch is a bit larger than the same size tire in an et street and they made a 27x11.5" so I didn't need to all the way up to 28. They're basically identical in prices too.

False . I have run the ET Streets and the DR both will hook. Id you are going to be driving these on the street any at all then go with the dr's. If most of the time going to be spent then get the ET Streets. They have a softer side wall and will wrinkle more when you dump the clutch so it doesnt shock the tires and spin.

I have run the ET Street Radials with my 5 speed too. Like I said, they can hook very well, but they are much more inconsistent and rely much more on track prep. My best ET so far was with the DRs, so I know they work.

This guy is looking to get a set of spare v6 wheels to run track tires on.......he definitely should get a slick since they will see basically zero street time.

Sicks are not what will work best for him. Et Streets will be his best route. If he does go with slick nothing wider than 8"

ET Streets are basically DOT class approved slicks or "cheater slicks" as some call them. Full slicks would be best, but it restricts him from running in certain classes and certain events that require a DOT approved tire.

I guess I should have clarified what I meant by "slicks." I'd stick with a ET Street or Hoosier QTP

The et streets are a lil harder so You will get some wheel spin and not dead hook. And yes a cheater slick is your best friend with lower power cars. I run et streets with 650 rwhp and have good luck with them.

So would a 26x10.50-16 be a good size to go with my 3:73's or should I look for something a lil taller??

I'd definitely stick with a 26" tire with those 3.73s......as far as width goes, it depends on how wide your 16" wheels are. If I were you I would just order a cheap set of black steel 15x8s from summit (they are like $39 each) and run a 26x10.50-15 to give you that extra sidewall

They are stock 16x7.5in V6 rims... Im going with a 16in because I am running a Cobra brake setup and the 15's dont fit without some modding
