I understand. So you think I should just do the pulley, or the belt AND the pulley?

changing your belt wont hurt either. Check it over while it is out. Personaly I would just get a gatorback belt while I was at it. I hate that chirping crap.

Just picked up the tensioner and pulley and Gates belt. Cost me damn near $90. But I guess that's not a bad price for piece of mind. Tony noticed it was bounding around when I was in D. Should be a pretty simply fix, eh? One bolt and just re-route the new belt.

I just got the pulley, tensioner, and a gates belt. Installing sometime tomorrow and hopefully changing my oil and fixing my exhaust rattle. I am certain my problem(s) will be fixed for the chirping at least. The exhaust and oil may have to wait for this weekend.

My cousin has worked at the local FoMoCo dealership for 25 years. I stopped by there to talk to him after I got the pulley ans tensioner installed and told him my problem. He gave me some belt dressing they use and he said if that fixed my problem it was the belt. He said that Gates are the best period. Someone thats been turning wrenches for 40 years says a product is the best, I'd have to agree.

Well that's good to know. I need an install writeup from someone though. I have never done anything with the belt or tensioner. I mean how hard could it be, pop the belt off, pop the tensioner off, re install the tensioner, and make sure the belt is routed correctly. That's about it, isn't it?

#1-take a 1/2 in socket wrench and insert it into the square hole on the tensioner. turn clockwise to relieve the tension and remove the belt.

#2- there are 3 small bolts connecting the tensioner to the block (not sure of the size off the top of my head) remove these and the tensioner will come off.

#3- on the back side of the pulley there is a bolt connecting it to the tensioner (once again, not sure on the size). Pulley comes off pretty easy after the bolt is out.

#4- clean all bolt threads

#5 assemble using reverse order. I am sure there are torque specs but for this just make sure they are all snug, no neede to go overboard. there is a diagram of the belt routing on the underside of the hood. the belt instal should end at the alternator pulley. use the 1/2 in socket wrench to get enough slack to slip the belt on the pulley. Lastly, take a quick look to make sure the belt is all on and lined up

weird, the 98 cobra, mach 1, multiple gt's were all 3/8 and right up by the pulley itself
