I have been on the search for the perfect shade of tint for my tail lights.
Since my mustang is laser red, i didnt think i should tint them too dark (just smoke them), but now since i will be getting my gloss decklid blackout, i dont know what to do...
Ive seen completely blacked out lights with the decklid and it looks sick, but i dont know if thats the way for me...

I found this picture awhile back and i think it might be the perfect shade of tint that ive been looking for. My question is, how can i achieve this "perfect tint"...
I have no clue what they used for the tails. It looks too good to be nightshades, but i could be wrong.

Do you guys think i should pursue this shade of tint, if i find a way to do it? Or should i go lighter or darker?

I appreciate the input

this is mine, did two coats of vht nightshades and 3 coats of clear and wet sanded
nice bro! i have a question though? you added 3 coats of clear, but your lights dont look too glossy, do you know why this is? Ive seen other who have used vht and they look glossy. It changes from person to person... do you have any reasons to why this is?

heres mine, i about blacked out the reflector part at the bottom then made the reverse light very dark and blended them up toward the top lightly

use VHT and a can of clear

That guy posts on here i think, maybe he will chime in about the one you posted

car had been sitting out for awhile in the rain and crap but when i put a nice coat of wax on them it gets all pretty and shiny. let me see if i can dig up a pic of them glossy like that.

i would say a tad lighter than the ones you posted, but here is the thing when i did mine i did a coat held it up to my car went back and did another coat went back and held it up to my car and i was like thats exactly what i was looking for.

thats smart. and i guess if i ever did go too dark, i could always sand some of the tint off

that could be the case, but i think it depends on the process of spraying the tint itself on (light vs heavier coats) and how you wetsand between coats. but i am no expert, and im all ears to this one

did that, wetsanded between every coat. Lol Ive actually bought 3 cans of vht and have done like 7 cars for 50 bucks a pop.. Ima hustla.. these kids like it so Im happy.. and paid lol

Its weird the vht is very shiny, the dullness comes with clear coating.. Also in the pic I sent you was right after I did it, and wasnt polished so that helped

When i was doing my clear, i had to keep the spray very constant and thick. Other wise the clear oversprays or overlaps and looks dull. im not sure how to explain it, but it was hard to get the clear to go on right without it making it look dull.

Was it a satin type clear coat? alot of the cheaper clear spray bombs will have a satin finish. My buddy has an 04 sonic blue GT that he took regular black rattle can to the tails, not too bad in the day, but at night you can see different shades where the paint is uneven. Brake lights do shine through, even on bright days though.
