Do a few coats of VHT until you get it a little darker than you want, and sand with 1000 until it lightens to where you want it. Then clear the **** out of it, wetsand 1000 then 2000 then polish

alright sounds good. im thinking ill either pick up a can of vht, or maybe get s shop to put some tint into a can for me...

where would i find some vht though? autozone and kragen dont have it, and besides online, im clueless to where might have it

yeah exactly, specially for the clearcoat, but when you turn the lights on during the night you cant even tell they are tinted

God damn theres some good looking tails in this thread. I knew I should have wetsanded, mine look like **** compaired to these! Only reason I didn't put much time into is because my tails are screwed from moisture, I figure when I get new ones I'll put more time into it.

My autozone has it, so does my O'reillys. If they don't have it, ask if they can order you some VHT Niteshades

damn for 2 coats that seems pretty dark... i guess its all about how you spray the **** on
Yeah, you want to do thin layers. I put four coats of niteshades on mine and it's lighter than this guy that did 2 coats.

agreed with cook, its all in the way you spray it.

Grey knows whats up ;)

Oh and to the OP, make sure you sand the light before you spray the VHT. On the first one I tinted, I didn't sand first and then when I was wetsanding I ended up with a couple of high spots where I completely sanded through the tint. Looked like **** so I had to sand the whole thing down smooth and start over

yea i would do light coats...

do you think a shop could put some clear and black in a rattle can for me? them i could have professional paint, but still control the exact darkness i want

They'll do it but it's expensive. VHT is like $12 and just as good. The clear to go over it is like $4.
alright. ill just think ill stay with vht then... any preferred clear? i have a little dupli color perfect match automotive clear, but i need some more.

i still need to pick up another set of tails tho, in case i ever need to switch back

I can't tell you what to use for clear. I just used the clear enamel we had sitting at home. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

As far as picking up another set... I know it seems like a pain, but to save a few bucks you could just sand down the VHT and polish them back out to red. Or I guess you could just find someone to switch with if that time ever came. I don't think you'll have a problem if you just smoke them though. Trailblazers come stock with lights that look smoked!
