Whats the widest tire you can put on a 8 1/2" rim? That works properly, 255 or 265?

I would say 265 would be the widest, and thats as long as your not running those lo pro "things" lol. if you have a 8.5 rim a 265 is 10.4 in. tire. you should be able to do that, i know a rule of thumb with larger truck tires is you can go 2 in. wider with no problems. Maybe a tire guy can chime in and confirm or deny at this point lol

your not going to get a straight answer. alot of people are biased on how wide you can go. i was asking the same question a couple weeks ago and i ended up going 255. i even asked the tire place if i could go wider and they straight up told me it wouldnt work. just read the thread beerhunter posted it helped me pick my tire size out.

Well, i just spent a LOOONNNG time reading that post.. Beerhunter you have a horrible tire setup and your car is not fine at all :p

thanks,

I'd say 265 at the widest, 255 would be considered "right", and a 245 would be more ideal (assuming the tire doesn't run wide/narrow). A 275 will fit, but I wouldn't run that in the front, and I'd only go that wide if you're a straight-line-only kinda guy.

Well, I think a 255 will be my choice. 255/45-18. I am running 245/45-17's now on factory suspension, and it looks like crap. I bought a set of factory Fanblades, I really think the 255 will set em off. I would of bought a set of aftermarket wheels, but didn't want to invest alot in right now, still debating on a trade in to a 2011. Does anyone have pics of Fanblades on factory suspension?

I've always used Tire Rack specs section. Find the tire you are buying then go to specs for the tire and one column will be "Rim Width Range" which gives the range of rim size that specific the tire will fit. Also a good explanation at tire rack if you click the Rim Width Range heading.
