hey guys its been since may 2008 since my last confesion..lol

anyhow, i got a 87 mustang lx now.

vortech supercharger s-trim 8psi
edelbrok performer rpm aluminum heads
edelbrok upper and lower with spacer
65mm TB spacer edelbrok
65mm TB bbk
95mm lightning maf
forged internals .30 over to a 306
42lb injectors

actually got a couple questions.... what timing should i be running? currently went from 12* to 8* and seems to be doing better. other question is i think im running way to rich. i can see the white smoke when i stomp on it and i can smell it. i havent physically checked the pressure yet which i will by this weekend to find out where im standing on.
Im no pro but i would think my solution would be to boost more, maybe around 12-15psi. The pulley size 2.87 should bring me right to around that psi i would think and lean me out a bit to match my injector output. as for what I've been reading they 42lb injectors are mainly for cars 400-460 even 500hp range or even higher. if i can skip a tune i would dont want to spend all that money when i can just simply boost more maybe change the crank pulley and check my fuel pressure from there and call it a day. I need some second opinions on this. possibly other setups and how it works out for you. if you have the same setup as me tell me what I'm possibly doing wrong. i've been also thinking of putting my timing to 5* as i heard in other forums that it works -1* per every psi you boost. Not sure how true this is but seems the lower i go the better it runs just want to be safe and now sorry so left it at 8* for now. Let me know guys. Thanks

I think you should go with a tune

ya i think a tune as well . Your injector size isnt too big so that is probably the problem.

You have a forged internals with a blower, and you want to skip a tune? I have been out of the came for a while, but I believe you could probably get a MSD BTM which allows you to run a higher base timing and reduces timing as boost increases.

thanks for the suggestions....
I already have the car tuned by fordspeedracing in clearwater,fl. it has the chip and all. he had to tune it in order to install the new maf, injectors and computer. i set my base timing at 8deg seems to be doing alot better. had it set to 12deg which wants to bog at top end. I heard the FMU's were junk its just forcing more fuel pressure. I dont need that i have the 42lb injectors and have plenty of fuel. I didnt mean to say i wanted to skip a tune I already have one its just that i need to lean it out some and also have the right timing set which would put me right on the spot.

i read that some guys say that for every 2 psi of boost you go -1deg on timing so if i ran 10psi that would bring my base timing to 5deg. does this sound legit. It all comes down to a science sometimes i even confuse myself.haha

dude, you can't play with timing and boost after being tuned. It doesn't work that way. If your car is that rich the afr's would have to be below 10.00. Either your tuner sucks or you have a mechanical issue. Pull the vac line off the fpr and see if it's wet with gas.

+1 I am going to say take it to another tuner, your car should not have left the other one in that condition, I don't know if they had it right and you tried playing with something and got it goofed up or if they left you like that, but if they did, DEFINATELY find another place to tune your car, A boosted car, without a good tune is just waiting to come apart on you, I know its not cheap to get a good tune, but think how much its going to cost when that thing comes apart and you have to start all over! Throwing more boost on it is just a recipe for disaster in my opinion...

ok i'll try that. i think i would have to agree with the bad tuning. the car was still bogging around 5krpm when i got it he said it should be good i dont understand why he would leave it that way. charged me $1600 to get the maf, injectors and computer in along with the tune and a dyno that i never got graphs for. he told me i was running 350 somthing at 3500rpm but couldnt tell me facts or even a sheet to go with it. its bs if you ask me. car seems to be doing alot better now at 8* he never even touched the timing on it which is why i think it was a crappy tune to begin with. I'll find another tuner. i also called him and he said maybe we can try something else and i really dont know what he means by this by something else why couldnt it be done right the first time. i think he's more worried about his 6 sec mustang then his own customers. i always see the same cars at the shop getting worked on too.

I wish it were that easy bro...haha...hey what setup are you running on yours.. i see your running 14.47 @96mph and 12psi boost. looks like you got the stock intake from the picture. I ran a 13.9 @ 104 last thursday before i tore up my input shaft on the tranny. Come to find out the guy who had it before me put a 4 banger tranny on it and i didnt even know it until it came down to rebuilding the thing. Never the less had to get a new tranny but i dont regret it. T-5 with fordracing rebuilt kit and hardend gears.

If your only running like 350HP you could have gone with 36 lb injectors

maybe even just 30lbs would have been suffice but the tuner told me i had to run the 42lbs for some reason. I guess cause of all the bolt on i have and assuming that i was going to go back sooner then later to get another tune to boost more which was my plan to begin with but if he couldnt get it right the first time why would he get it right the second time.
off subject.. what kind of wheels are those that you got on your stang. looks almost like the ROH Z06 wheels i have on mine.

They say A.R.E on the center caps. They were on there when i got the car back in 1998. They are so beat up thay have missing clear coat and alot of curb rash. Its time to change them out. trying to save some money

Well, I don't have a vortech, anymore. But when I did, I doubt it would have trapped 96 mph. I'm turbo now. 104 is horrible for your set up. Even if you just have that intake mani on 10psi you should trap 110. Take out $350 and get a re-tune.

yea thinking of getting retuned again soon. im only boosting 8lbs but either way yes your right i should be running 110mph and mid to high 11's at the qtr mile. im hurting on my 60ft times because of traction but soon this will change. planning on getting some cheap 10hole wheels and slapping some slicks on them for the track. i also just got a new trans i had the 4cyl trans before and noticed they were shorter then the 8cyl t-5 so i'll probably be going again soon right after my tune. for now im just taking it easy.
