KIND OF NEW TO THE MUSTANG WORLD AND MODDING, BUT WHEN IS A TUNE NECESSARY OR OPTIONAL. ( JUST WHEN YOU ADD A HP CHANGING MOD) OR WHAT, HAVE BEEN READING FOR A WHILE AND SEE CERTAIN ( MANUFACTURE) MODS DONT NEED THEM BUT OTHERS DO. JUST KIND OF CURIOUS AND CONFUSED. IM STILL STOCK BUT HOPE TO MOVE UP SOMEDAY, MAYBE AXLE BACKS FIRST. (GOTTA CHECK WITH THE BANKER-WIFE. ALSO WHAT FUEL SHOULD A STOCK GT BE RUNNING. HIGHEST OCTANE AVAILABLE RIGHT? :usa PEACE AND THANX FOR ANY INPUT!!! :rockon TIMBERWOLF

Most cold air intakes require a tune. Some do not. Adding a turbo, or supercharger will require a tune.
Mostly, you want to change the tune anyways just to add power & mpg. Then in the future when you do other modifications, you have the tuner so you can have it set up properly.

So are you saying you dont need any mods, you can change the tune, what are the gains with just a tune and no mods? As far as exhaust goes does it need a new tune or just until you get to the cats(headers) ,or, not to worry until you get a check engine light? I would like to start with an axle back, and a CAI in the future( I know the CAI will require a tune) but what about the exhaust, when is it required. Should a person should throw on a tune first, then start modding? :crazy PEACE :usa TIMBERWOLF

It doesn't really matter which you do first, UNLESS you get a CAI, or other performance part that requires a tune. My Airaid does not require one. A good tune by itself is worth roughly 20 rwhp. As for exhaust, if you go with headers, make you sure you get long tubes. Shorties do nothing but make noise.

My first step was to put mufflers on, then I put my CAI on, then the next week I got my Predator tuner. I'm running a 91 octane tune. :)

If you can afford it, I would go with a CAI, exhaust, and tune all at once to start with.

Thanx for the input, now all I have to do is get the banker(my wife) to understand why I would like to put new exhaust and other $$ into a brand new car- some women, just dont understand the obsession we have with our mistresses(cars) :banana still stock and dreaming :rockon more input would be appreciated.....

need to go with an off-road h pipe when u do ur exhaust, gives u more power and better sound, course you will need a tuner for that.

I would love to do the whole exhaust, but the wife would freak, im thinking i could pull over the axle backs and she would be none the wiser. im thinking FRPP they are actual borlas without the name right? Ill have to save for a while to get the CAI and tuner. THANX for the replies it really does help a person consider what to do next.

If ur going the FRPP route, need to by the Borlas from Lightning Force Performance, thats where I got mine from and were damn near the same price as the FRPPs. That way u get the real thing & not the ford racing.
