yeah ive been looking around and i guess there was only 2 companies that made the kits for the targa tops and one was JMS and that guy went to jail cause he was a scam artist. the other company is no longer around for whatever reason. lol i just found this on another forum thought it was pretty funny.

Rollin in my 5.0 with my rag top down so my hair can blow....

Rollin, in my 4.6 with my top cut off so my chassis can flex......

you know what the targa top reminds me of is

maybe ill get a junk mustang and chop the roof on it and figure out a way to make a kit and market it, i could see some money in that if you could guarantee no leaks and proper fitment and made it look good.

If you cut the roof off the Hardtop your car will flex just as much as a STOCK 99-04 vert. The chassis are exactly the same all you need is a pair of full length sub frame connectors and you can go at it.

Some guy started to manufacture them a few years ago, but apparently his business didnt go anywhere because his customer service sucked ass from what I heard, but if you do a search there are tons of threads about this already, I wish I remembered the products name, but yeah ive seen one pic of a mustang where it looked okay, its original but not worth the trouble...

There was a cat on here that bought one for his car. I think he drove a yellow mustang, but hell who knows that was like 2 years ago that this went on. He bought it from a guy on here in the classifieds... i never heard if he installed it or not?

although i think the idea is awsome, it would look much better on a foxbody or an 05+ mustang IMO

i mean if you look at the Mark IV Supra i posted above its got the same lines as a 94-98 stang around the windshield and top of the car and even top of the door, and i think it looks pretty dang good! I would love to see whats in the kit, but 4500 dollars was the guy at JMS to do the work and like i said that guy went to jail for numerous reasons. 4500 is a lot of money to take a sawzall to a roof and install subframe connectors..... if i did quality work i would charge like a grand.

I thought about doing this years ago but never really did the research on it. The old Z28 had the removable glass targa top, very nice. Dont have money to blow on something like that. The Saleen does look clean. It looks like it is a permanent targa.

I love them but I would only do it if I was building a cruiser. The kits I have seen are way over priced. If it was under a grand and I was going for comfort and summer time style I would consider it. I would never do it to a race car though. I think the virt guys are nuts as it is, lol

where have you seen the kits? can you still find them?

Not doubting what you are saying, but can you show me proof? I have always been told that it was more then just the subframe connectors that was added to the verts. I have read that they had to add extra support in the a pillars as well to make up for the loss of the roof in case of rollover.

No proof and never read anything about support at the A pillars. From what Ive seen ive owner both convertible and hardtop 99-04 mustangs. That the only difference was the small subframe connectors included on the vert.

So you may lose roll over protection if there was any to begin with. They grey car was the one featured in MM&FF and was a custom job where they supposedly spent a lot of time making sure the car was stable and stiff. Go figure

Damn. I really want to find out what the truth is.
