i have a 2001 gt no serious mods. ive always used castrol 5w 30. well today i found out that factory puts in 5w 20 and thats what its suppose to be run with. any inputs like should i switch and if so that or anyother weights?
what weight of oil do you guys run

not the fuel rail, you need to count the valve cover hold down bolts. it's hard to guess with a jan. 2001 build date, it could have either motor.

Mine was made on 12/00 and i have a romeo i belive.. Could be certin because the car is till in the shop

I run 6 quarts (manual says 5) of Quaker State full synthetic 5w-30. I've read several articles on oil. I thought the reason Ford changed their recommendation to 6 quarts of 5w-20 was that under high rpms the oil didn't flow back to the pan fast enough through the narrow passages in the motor. Under prolonged high rpms with 5 quarts of 5w-30 there was a chance that you could run the pan dry.

I'd say use what Ford said to use. I mean they don't just roll the dice and say yeah that's what we'll use! I'm sure there are reasons why they say to use one kind of oil over another.

true. and my 04 gt takes almost seven quarts to get it to the top.
6.75 quarts to get it just below the max mark (very top of the hatches)
