I have a v1 s trim set up. the whole set up was brand new when i had it put on but after like 3000miles the belts are starting to scream and i found a spot where the ribs of the belt are breaking off. I took it to a regular maintenance shop to see how much they charge to change out the belt. after an hour of being there they said it would be very difficult but one of them said that the pulley that is on the blower is not as wide as the rest of the factory pullies. so are you suppose to file the pelley edges down when you get the blower or what to keep it from eating up the belts. I went ahead and ordered a gates replacement belt but I dont want to get it put on until I find out if i need another pully or to file down the one thats already on? any advise please.

Post a picture. Your pulleys may just be misaligned and it's eating up the belt. Don't go messing with the pulley. A regular maintenance place probably knows nothing about a Vortech. They would probably try to put the belt on without loosening and pulling the head unit back.

what would cause it to get misaligned? yeah when i had it in that shop the mechanic was just standing there starring at it like he was confused and then he brought over 3 more guys the all attacked it with flashlights and told me to get a 5 rib pulley. so I knew from there to say "thank you guys I will just got it fixed later but I know not to go back there unless I need an oil change. its the front side of the belt that the threads 1st started coming out of the side of. most of the damage is on the front side of the belt. but I found one spot where a small chunk of 2 ribs were missing just in one area. and it squeals like a pig oddly When i spray wd40 on the belts. it quiets a bit when i spray behind the idler pulley on the center of it.

btw the shop said my belt tensioner is reversed so I cant get a drive in there to back the tension off. i know factory it wouldnt be too hard to change the belt out myself. how much harder is it now since the blower is on bc it seems as if alot of those areas are very tight and hard to get to? Ive read about ppl puttin washers behind dif pullies but at the same time it seems as if a few ppl go through belts once they're blown more than a few times.

Vortech only has a few belt widths, 4 rib, 6 rib, and 8 rib. I don't think a 4 rib would even fit the V1 or V2. So I would rule that out. The belt routing for the Vortech is really tight and convoluted so I would find a mechanic who knows what he is looking at or find another shop. BTW, the blower has to be unmounted to change the belt and no your belt tensioner is not mounted backwards!

ok gotcha thanks for that I want be trying it out myself then. the two quotes i got today for the job was the one shop I went to said $60 for the job but couldnt really do it when they got it. the other shop quoted me $325 labor. I guess I will check out the performnce shops.

You can change the belt by pushing the tensioner from under the car. That's what we did on the install. But I think We did have one mounting bolt out of the head unit. Also try replacing the idler pullies maybe. Mine was squeaking before the blower and went away when I changed this. After the belt was off I could literally wiggle the pulley back and forth. The bearing was shot.

My belt is slightly getting the rib closest to the front of the car eaten up some. But I don't think it's alignment since it's only on one rib?

i had to shim out the spacer on the alternater. i have the tfs manifold so there is a alternater bracket but even still with the alternater in place i woul have had to stick 2 washers to keep it strait. plus the bearings in the pulleys will pull them crooked a bit

Stal what should I do with mine? I can't figure out how to easily tell wich pulley it is. I need to change my belt soon as I am still smelling the burning rubber sometimes I just have been buying other crap.

ok gotcha. I was thinkin that idler pulley beside the head unit came with the blower. yeah until I can get into another house with a grage i will have to take it to a shop. the complex doesnt allow vehicle work in their parking lots.

well the major issues with belt rub falls in the top 3 pulleys, the one that bolts to the timing cover before the sc, the sc its self being off, and the idler pulley that is on its own bracket that bolts up to the alternater, i would look real close at them, rev the motor and check for pulley flex and i had an issue with the spacer being to fat and rubbing on the 3" idler next to it.

I had to grind my alt spacer down because when the belt rounded the idler pulley it was touching the spacer... no offense to the op but how did you come up with a supercharged car? I understand that there are people out there that are not mechanically inclined but you dont know how to change a factory belt? how long has your belt that is shredding been on the car?

Another easy way to get the tensioner is just pull the belt as hard as you can, then have someone put a 3/8 ratchet in it. Rather then get it from underneathe.

Also it very well could be the tensioner. My belts kept ripping/tossing, I replaced my tensioner 3 weeks ago and nothing yet.

no offense taken but this statement says that I know how to change the factory belt but Im not sure on how to do it since the blower has been put on. I am mechanically inclined enough to have done an engine swap on a cutlass, work on my old acura, work on my old torino so on and so forth. but I live in an apartment now so i dont have a garage and you can work on cars in the parking lot. And I now have a few physical limitations now after getting banged up in afghanistan july 2008. I have some knowledge. the belt just started shredding and squealing like a week ago.
