Well I just found a guy to trade my IRS for his SRA. Hes giving me some cash along with a 9k mile SRA out of his 96 GT. Hes giving me 94 Cobra springs, Some aftermarket shocks and Aftermarket LCA's with it. This is more of a build thread than anything but i will need some help along the way. My only concern as of now is the offset of my rims, and the brake lines. Not sure on the brake lines or if i need new ones. Also im pretty sure its a little shorter than 99+ rears.
Hes getting my IRS with 3.73s and poly bushings. I'm getting a little cash from him as well! I started tonight with getting Removing upper trunk trim liner to get access to top shock mounting nut and ABS connector. then Removing the shock nut and unplugging the ABS sensor. Then i got her on jack stands and removed the rear wheels. The last thing i got to was removing the brake caliper assembly. It was a good start of things and i have until Sunday to get it removed. The guy already has his removed and is waiting for me.
Sorry for no pictures yet but i will update.
Thoughts, opinions?
I'm going to make this into a write up for anyone interested here is my steps for removing the IRS. I will finish the rest as i finish my swap.
First off some tools that are great to have are:
Creeper
2 floor jacks
2 jack stands
1/2" Impact Gun
Air compressor (The impact can't run off a small one to well)
Sockets:
10mm 12pt
12mm 12pt
13mm
15mm
18mm
21mm
Wrenches:
10mm
12mm
13mm
15mm
18mm
21mm
3/4
Next for removal of the IRS:
1. Get the car on jack stands (sub frame connectors work great)
2. I removed my cat back which consisted of 4 3/4 bolts and some washers
3. I dropped my drive shaft from the diff with 4 12mm 12pt bolts
4. Remove the back seat. Its easy just push in the little button under the lip of the seats (2)
5. Remove and unplug the ABS wire and put it through the floor
6. Take out your e brake line from your caliper and tuck it away
7. Remove rear shocks. ( you may have to support the lower control arms with the jack to remove the lower bolts from the shocks.)
8. Remove the calipers and hang out of way.
9. Remove the top bolt from the IRS. Its on the frame and a 18mm i believe
10. Lower jack slowly
11. Remove springs (be careful they are spring loaded and accidents can happen)
12. Raise jack putting IRS back in place.
13. Remove front bolt in frame where the lower control arm mounts.
14. Lower the IRS out!!!
Anyone can help fix my how-to! suggestions?
