I want a sealed subwoofer for listening to rock music (Three Days Grace, Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Bullet For My Valentine, Skillet, etc.)

I was looking at a JL Audio 12w3 but when I measured the space for a box, it wouldn't fit, would it be better to get a 10" sub or what?

I'm interested in sound quality more than SPL. Would the 10" sub be bad with the same wattage?

What would you guys recommend?

well there is no way in hell that I could put the 12w3 against the back seat since there's only a 12" clearance, but I found a vehicle-specific enclosure from MTX I believe that will fit on the side like a stealth box, but for only $250.

Any recommendations for speakers? I was thinking about components in the front and coaxial speakers in the back. What do y'all think think?

You build a custom box... I know a guy with 2 w7s in a 2005+

go with the alpine 10" SWR. depending on other componants, its more than enough in these little cars.
Alpine Type-R SWR-1042D 10" Dual 4-ohm Component Subwoofer

this is the one i have but its discontinued, but you get the idea

looks like it was only discontinued on that website....

as far as speaker, i have infinitti kappa 6x9s. i too listen to mainly rock and classic rock. my system was tuned by MECCA and it sounds amazing. i dont have the most high end stuff or most expensive. everyone cant believe i get the sound i get with the little amount of stuff i have

i have a 12w3v3 in mine but youre right it doesnt fit against the back seat unless you build a custom enclosure. but you dont want a sealed box. think of it this way a 10w3 ina slot ported box will have the same output as a 12w3 in a sealed box.

got a few pics of setup in gargage
That looks like, theft waiting to happen :D

Not exactly true, but its a good way to get the point across.

^^ lol its a quick way to get the point across but youre right there are other thing that come into account. i was just trying to make it as simple as possible

tru dat yo :rockon

im sorry but this is false, there are many of factors what come into play amout of wattage cabin area and cone area ect.., sealed box can be loud but with more power compared to a proper enclosure for the jl woofer,

what kind of amp yu plan on running on the 12? what is the dvc configeration of the woofer? because there are alot of woofers around there that running it sealed with be "lounder" then ported

if you read above youll see that i stated that. but if you take those things out of the equation and run two identical systems in every way including the inside volume of the box but one is sealed and one is ported, the ported system will have a higher output

you are correct i apologize but with what his setup sounds like i would run sealed imo, more trunk space still sound good also would have to worry about figering out how much port area he is going to need for his enclosure, because it seems like he is not very knowledgeable in car audio

thats true. i didnt care about trunk space when i did mine thats why i have a huge slot ported box
