Difference between stock Mustang GT and Cobra blocks?

What are the differences between the stock Mustang GT block and the iron Cobra block???

If I switch to a Cobra block, will I need to make any other changes, or do they swap without any changes?

cobra blocks are romeo blocks. if you have a 99-mid 01 its a windsor block and heads. every thing can be transfered over. the timing cover bolts are the only thing that is diff when it comes to the swap from windsor to romeo. romeo blocks are romeo blocks cobra or gt.

I have a 2004 Mustang Gt, so I guess you're saying it's a direct swap. What is the advantage of having a Cobra block vs. the 2004 Mustang GT block?

The reason I ask is because I am either going to replace my rotating assembly with all forged parts (keep my block), or just by a complete short block with a Cobra block and the same forged parts.

if its 96-98 great block some 99/01's had the same teksid block out of the 96-98 cobras, and other 99/01's have the wap block which isnt as strong b/c of the windowed mains in the block. 2v heads on cobra short blocks make some good compression almost 11.1 and yeild some nice gains

Everything will bolt right up. The main difference between them is that the cobra blocks have knock sensor bosses in the intake valley which need to be ground off to fit blowers such as the Kenne Bells. Other than that, there is no machine work necessary to allow all your 2v stuff to fit or anything. I think that is what you are looking for saxmann.

Being romeo blocks, I believe they also use a different main bearing design.....but I'm sure you won't be using your old **** anyways.

Thank you for the info about compatibility of the parts.

I would like to know if there is any advantage whatsoever to using a "Cobra" block vs our "stock" Mustang GT blocks (2004). I.e. are they stronger in any way???

There was one bolthole that had to be filled on mine putting the GT timing cover on the WAP block, so they're not "exactly" the same. No big deal though.

Yeah, all WAP blocks are aluminum. Wap stands for Windsor Aluminum Plant........;)
