I wanted to get some of your opinions on short shifters. Which ones of the following 3 would you perfer? I don't want MGW so its out of these three brands. Thanks!

Steeda Tri Ax
Ford Racing
Hurst

well the ford racing one is built by hurst so theyre the same. i personally like them the best cause of the retro look to them and in my experience the tri-ax is very stiff and doesnt have much play

I had the Tri Ax on my '03 GT and really loved the feel. When I bought my '06 new, I installed the Hurst. Loved that one too, especially with the 40% shorter throw from stock and the retro look but my wife always complained about how notchy it felt to her. So now I'm using the MGW and it's adjustability is a real plus. Between the Tri Ax and the Hurst, I would go Hurst just because of the retro cool look.

The idea of a shifter to shorten the the throw is stupid IMO. The idea of a shifter to improve the feel, tighten up the slop, make shifts to the proper gear faster and easier is a good one. The Steeda is a good mechanical design and combined with a longer lever than stock doesn't shorten the throw any but makes the car a pleasure to shift. Helps too to put in stiffer motor mounts too. The motor moving around with the shifter tied to the chassis doesn't help. On the new 5.0 trans the shifter is mounted on the gear box it should shift better and from reports does somewhat.

take a look at the pro 5.0 and shelby shifters both are also good

I'm a fan of the Hurst Billet/Plus Shifter. No rattles or vibrations...!!

i've got a tri ax. it's notchy, but i don't mind. Good solid shifts with it so far and thats with many 5.5k powershifts.

Shorter shifter = faster if it is a quality piece that helps you make the 2-3 shift.

...Faster because throw distance is shorter.

I run a modified Roush. Mine is shorter in height and therefore has a shorter / faster throw...the trade-off is it takes more leverage, but I'm strong like bull.

Oh...buy the MGW. :yes

I have a pro 5.0 and I love it. It's a pretty short shifter on my car so you have to get used to the reach, but I have long arms so it wasnt a problem. Also I have heard MGW has the shortest throw and is a great shifter. I always wanted to try one of those too!

Hey OP why say neh to the mgw? just curious, I've heard nothing but good things about them.

The triax costs the same as the MGW, a good Hurst (billet version) costs just as much too. The regular Hurst (cheap version) uses an OEM steel stamping as the shifter base. Save your money and buy MGW.

The whole idea of upgrading a shifter is for better shifts right? Why go with a sub par shifter because you don't have the cash right now? MGW outperforms every other shifter so IMO, wait! I'm basing my answer on the weird notion that you still are interested in a triax (costs the same as MGW) ....I had a Triax before the MGW, so I have a little experience on the two.

Everything I read is hands down MGW, are you going to let $80 be the difference in getting the best. As I said there are a lot of people on the Roush site that think its good enough to discard the Roush short throw they already have and paying for the MGW I think that says a lot

Hurs.t Plus CHE K-member brace with tq limiters. This is an awesome comb. It goes into gear so much easier and at the track 90-95% I hit ever gear were as in the past, I would miss 3rd about 30-40% of the time.

Hurst. No question. I got one in my 06 gt. Very short shifts. Goes straight into gear with no problems. You actually have to try to miss a gear with the Hurst. Definitely get the Hurst.
