ask any person here who has done the built 2v thing all the way and most will say they are happy with the out come but look back at the cost and relise it was probably better to go another way. i just sold my fully built 2v for a 03 cobra. so far i have spent 7000 on the cobra and it will put down more power than my gt. not by much but it was deff less head ache to build considering im going to make mid 600's with out opening the valve covers.

i wish everyone who keeps telling this guy to build his car would dump the money and time in their own car and see what kind of a pain it is. my car was down for 4 months. then there is issue after, problem after problem. its up to you op but i have done this many times and unless your willing to loose your ass on the deal then i say do it.

build strong motor with heads and cams 5500,
built trans 3200
built rear 800
kb 4800
fuel to support 1200

total which is still missing a ton of crap 15500 dollars.
Even if you get a Mach 1 or a Cobra and you want to make serious power you would still need a:
Built Trans
Built Rear
KB
Fuel System
and it wouldn't hurt to upgrade either motor anyway.

Btw.... whenever you do an upgrade to a Mustang it doesn't add much if any resale value... it's all about the fun factor

Dont be afraid to drop money and mod the car but at the same time dont let sentiment blind you from the easiest way of getting what you want. Since my 99 isnt a DD I can afford the down time. Seems like trading for a cobra or new/used 5.0 would get you where you want to be without down time and what ifs considering its DD status.

your right anytime you want to invest in a car it cost money. problem i see is how much your investing vs how much head ach you fight with it. as stated earlier i sold off my 2000 mustang gt which i had built a motor for, sc built trans and rear, total it cost me a little over 20 grand and that is about what it cost for those mods. there are ways to save here and there but quality vs cheap is what you pay. if i could have done it all over again i would have sold the thing for a cobra. lets say a decent cobra cost 18 grand. now you get 8 grand out of your gt so your out 10 grand out of pocket. i am doing a budget 600 hp build for the cobra now and i have spent

1200 clutch kit, flywheel, and input shaft
1200 built rear end
3500 whipple 2.9L
700 fuel
250 for maf
450 tune
7300 total

add that to the what you have in the cobra equals 25300 dollars. and if you wreck the car i would assume you would get between 16-17 grand back for it, which is a much smaller loss than investing 20 grand into a gt and wrecking it and only getting 8000 for it. people can do what they want and build what ever car they feel cause its not my money and i dont have to live with the choice.

+1

ALL that money you'll be spending on buying a brand new car, just use it towards your current car.

BE SAFE OUT THERE.
very true and thats almost like starting over financially unless you find a steal on a 5.0 or cobra. Get a Built block and a used blower of hell even a new blower bc I dont see you getting a whole lot of cash on a trade with over 140,000 miles on it. So drop in a forged block for 2+ grand and go from there instead of starting over. It will cost but so will a car note and finance charges on a newr vehicle. Its easy to blow All of your cash on a new car after deployment but its different to blow Part of your cash on a car thats yours already.

That being said I spent $2500 on the new complete v1 blower, $80 for the maf, $90 for the gauges, that buts me at $2670. I eventually plan on running an mmr600 $2299 which will put me at $4969 now I know things will add up when running an intercooler and different maf but if it was gonna cost close to 20 grand then I wouldnt go that route. But looking at those numbers doesnt seem like it will anywhere close to 20 grand it will be far less and there is no car payment or financing to be added onto the cost of modding since its mine. That being said OP if you think you aree going to build a beast that will cost you 20grand in mods then it would be smart to get a used 5.0 or cobra. Its all up to you though. But if you love and are attached to your car then that kinda answers it.

If I would have found a steal on a cobra like you did then I definately would have gotten rid of mine and got that better yet I woulda kept mine as a DD and gotten the cobra. But those things are expensive when found and the other ones you find are on their last leg and still over 14grand in this area.
