So I posted this on AFM, and I figured it would be useful for some of you guys here. Use it at your own discretion. :D

Hey everyone. I gave my Sixxer her first oil change today. I've read a bunch of questions by people who were uncertain about changing the oil or who had questions about the filter and such, or people who are just new to cars in general and have no idea how to do it, so I took some pictures.

Here's the set up:

Note: You only see 5 liters of oil in the pic, I had a spare liter of 5W-20 not shown that I had to put in.

First things first: drain the oil.

To do this, locate the oil drain plug on the oil sump. Its located facing the passenger side of the car. I did not take a 'before' pic of me unscrewing the screw, but this should help you nonetheless:

I had used an adjustable ratchet to remove the screw. Was not difficult, but required a little force to break the screw loose.

Next thing on the list is to change the oil filter (if you choose to). Which I did. To get to it from the bottom, you have to remove 3 bolts which are really easy and the bottom of the car even tells you where (and has arrows pointing to their locations.) Once unscrewed, the panel just swings down and you have easy access to the filter.

I chose to remove the filter from the top:

Then I drained the oil, by routing it with a cardboard piece, so as to avoid getting dirty oil on wires that just happen to be in the way:

That's it. Real easy. :bigthumbsup

Thanks for taking time to post these pics. What brand of ramps are you using? Any problem with clearance when pulling up on them?

I'll have to get back to you on the ramps specs. I bought them at Autozone and opted to go for the more 'heavier' and 'durable' ramps they had (made for SUVs and Trucks) -- since all of their ramps were plastic (including these), I did not want to go cheap. I think they are called something along the lines of Rhino Ramps. When I get home later today, I'll post back with the info.

Unfortunately, due to their size they did have clearance issues - which I hear is common with our cars, so I'm not sure if the smaller ramps would have the same problem or not.

To get my car up the ramp I did not have any 2x4's laying around which is what most people use, so I used concrete bricks that worked just fine by setting them in front of the ramp, and then driving up on them.

If you plan on using ramps, just know that with a RWD car, it is rather difficult and unpleasant trying to get them up the ramps without the ramps shooting out underneath them. You can't see it in my first pic, but I set a boulder behind each ramp to prevent slippage. With FWD cars its a whole different story.

Shoot. I totally forgot about checking on my ramps specs. lol. Its dark and cold outside, I'll try to do it in the daytime when I remember

I changed mine for the first time last weekend at 5K miles. Went with Royal Purple and K&N filter. I'm thinking I will probably change every 7500 miles from here on out.

Wix... mmmm. I have been using a Motorcraft filter with Mobil 1. I have been thinking of switching over. You just got me. I do my changes every 7500, but I'm probably going to move to 5k now because I drive the hell out of it. I bought it eight months ago an I already have 16k :(
Motorcraft filters in my opinion aren't as good (from what I've heard), and WIX makes the top of the line fuel filters for cars (and not just for WIX but they make the filters for NAPA too.)

Good lord. I know they supposedly can with hold 10k but I don't trust it and change it every 4k.
Damn son. You using synthetic or regular oil?

I'll be doing mine every 10K miles with Synthetic, since that's about the average break-in time for an average car that should have regular oil replaced in 5k miles. In other words, I could technically wait till 15k miles before changing my oil with Mobil 1.

To be honest, thats about fair... that's close to 20k miles a year. In 5 years, thats 100k miles. A little more than the average driver, but that just means that you are enjoying your vehicle. :D

I use synthetic I just don't trust my car to perform that good 10k at a time.
Just realize that you are adding an additional liter of oil on top of the standard amount...And synthetic oil doesn't break down so easily... But if you don't mind spending the extra money and time on doing it, then more power to you. :D

Lol Yea I know what you mean I just can't bring myself to do it, who knows I might wait longer we will see
