Well I just ordered a Keanen 3 in Cowl Hood and am trying to decide what to do about the stripes. My current stripes are 6.5 in but I think I want to go wider maybe 10 or 12 in

First off I really didn't think this through very well because either way I do it, it is going to cost a small fortune to do the work( I am just kind of impulsive, one of my many flaws). If I Dont do stripes then I have to have the old ones removed and probably freshen up the paint along with getting the new hood painted. If I get stripes then I have to remove the current stripes, which are vinyl and Pay to have new stripes put on the entire car, painted of course. No more vinyl, that stuff sucks and really cheapens the car IMO.

So thoughts, comments. If I go for the stripes what size stripes will look good with the Keanen hood?? Should I play around with going to a different color than white? Maybe ghosting the stripes with another shade of blue.

As always if you have any pics or any numbers on what the work might cost that would be great too. Here is a pic of my car below

Thanks
Charlie

The Kaenen hood would look better without the stripes. I like stripes but the angle on the kaenen cowl might make it look out of place. I guess I would have to see pics??? Love that Kaenen hood though. If you do go with stripes, do it yourself. It is extremely easy to do.

No stripes

I am just bugging you:) if you like stripes go for it. I think it would take away from the look of the hood but if you like it thats all that matters. +1 on the paint if you go that way

Kaenen are fantastic, I have gotten a few hoods and wings from Kip when I lived in Melboure Fl. If you really like the stripes keep them, The bad thing about painting them on is if you get tired if that look.. The stripes can always be removed, however if you remove the stripes you will see the difference where the stripes were, Florida sun is hard on paint, also if you have put wax on the stripes it makes them harder to remove. I was a painter at a ford dealer in melbourne FL. I have removed many stripes on Roush Mustangs( it can be a pain) if they have had wax put on them.. Even if they are garage kept.. However looking at your vert theres not much striping on it just the hood and trunk .. So you could just have the trunk and hood repainted to match, a good paint shop would have no problem matching your color, or you could use a candy blue over a silver or white base and it would make the stripes transparent.. more coats you put on the darker the blue gets.. Your car will look good any way you want it..

Ryank-that looks great!

op-I'm in the same situation with you. My vinyl looks weathered, and I plan on an aftermarket hood. Curious to see what your outcome is.

My stripes were flat black so mine looked twice as bad.. It took me it seemed like forever to get them off.. The paint was so faded (not under the stripe) It was a huge difference. Looked like **** I didnt even want to drive the car..

Thanks BlueDevil Im sure you will get your stang lookin great!!!!

Ryank, your stripes in the first pic are exactly what I'm after. How long had they been on there before they started looking shitty? (and I don't mean they look shitty in the pic, just going by what you said)

And to the op, I don't think stripes would look good. The keanen cowl starts wide at the windshield and tapers towards the grille. It seems like it would give a weird angle to the stripes as they crossed from the raised area to the flat surface. Just my 2 cents.

Apexodus, the stripes lasted for about almost 4 years, which is a long time. Also being flat black helped them age faster.(I think ). My stripes were 10 inches wide .. with a 1/4 pin stripe on the outside..

Yes, I did. I went to a graphics company and had them cut them for me. I think it cost me like 50 bucks or so.. Its kinda like putting on window tint. Soapy water, hair dyer.. Make sure you wipe the car down good no dirt , do it in a garage or shop if you can.. Take your time with it.. Tape off the center of your car with tape. use whatever size tape you want to get the spacing in between the stripes 1in 1.5 in or 2.. Dont use that blue painters tape . get white 3m tape.. that blue tape will just come right off .. it doesnt stick worth a damn..

I like the matte black stripes on a black car, but the only ones I have seen have been vinyl. I'm guess a flat black can be painted on though?
