Okay so I am thinking about buying the v6 model 2011/12 stang and converting to a v8 in a year. the reason. i think my parents are willing to buy me the v6 stang over an import, not so much the v8. They dont know anything about cars so i could have the motor swaped with the five oh and they wouldnt have a clue.
so for the questions; is the manual 6 speed trans in the v6 models the same they put in the 5.0s? this is very important.
How hard is the engine swap from a v6 to a 5.0? im assuming its fairly easy (for my mechanic that is) but are there any dumb things under the hood that are making this task more difficult than it needs to be.
third, is the suspension basically the same as a gt or is the v6 made suspension calibrated for the lighter motor. does it have the same rear axle just with higher gear ratio than 3.73.
basically what are the differences between the v6 and v8 is it just the motor?
last what do you guys think a new/ used/ salvaged 5.0 will cost? any guesses.

must be 16, just wait till you can get the five oh

Im pretty sure the suspension will be different to accomadate the heavier motors in GT. That is why the 2010 springs wont work for the 11'. If your parents are nice enough to buy a 2011 v6 why not just mod the hell out of that instead of dropping 5-7k on a motor swap. You will be able to get some good power out of the new v6 and save some money. Just wont sound like a V8

i kind of fell like the v6 is gonna be called the stripper model super chick car in a few years. i come from the camaro forums, as i have a 73 camaro that i built, and mustangs get a lot of crap if they are slow. i really need it to have a v8 down the line. SO. IS THE 2011 V6 MANUAL THE SAME AS THE 2011 GT'S???

You'd be better off waiting to buy a 5.0 instead of doing a motor swap. Can it be done? Sure. Is it worth the trouble? I highly doubt it. And no offense, but this thread sounds like it came from a 16 year old.

You'd be much better off sticking with the 5.0 from the get go. The price involved in the swap would be a lot greater than the initial price difference. I know the driveshaft would have to be changed and I doubt the V6 tranny was made to hold the power of the 5.0 either.

What would change in a year that you'd suddenly fall into 6-10 grand of disposable income?

nope. i would like a v8 american muscle car. the switch may not happen right away but a year from now i would like to swap it, if its not dueable i will not get the v6 for anything. i will get a nissan and turbo it.
the v6 is actually pretty fast, none of your turbo nissans are touchin it. (sr20, ca18, ka24) you should get the v6 and be happy with 300 hp and great gas mileage.

for a kid with a minimum wage job supposedly scrapin for food ill be the first to say you sound spoiled as ****.

Drive your Camaro. Stop worrying about what people you don't know may say about your "slow" Mustang. Stop acting spoiled and treating your obviously generous parents like they are idiots by taking advantage of them. You're very lucky to be in the position you are, and that you haven't been ripped more than you already have.

If you think about it a fully loaded v6 price tag is like 26-27k. A barebones 5.0 would run about 29-30k.

You figer you get a deal on your v6 for 25k. Ok next a 5.0 crate motor (I Highly doubt your going to find a totaled out 5.0 motor). Runs about cheepest Ive saw 4k. Next mounts all the hardware add about 1000 more. + I doubt your going to do the job your self (I wouldn't lol) add probly about 3k for labor and such.

You'll be lucky if you can get that swap done for under 10k. For that price tag you should have just goten a fully loaed 5.0.......

okay...so you would rather get a nissan and turbo it?

why not the v6 and turbo that?!?! LOL

a priced a base v6 with the manual trans at 22-23k, +4k for a motor, + 1k for the rest of the parts under the hood, 1k for MY mechanic to install it. thats 6+22=28k to make it a $31k 5.0 mustang that is the same as the rest of em, that is if the v6 tranny is the same as the v8s.

probably nothing. but i have six thousand that would go into the camaro if my parents didnt make me a deal to not drive the dangerous and fast car daily.

you sound like you dont know s#!t about cars. a 2005 nissan has 305 hp without a turbo, 2010 has 320 without a turbo, with a turbo you gain more than 100hp.
okay...so you would rather get a nissan and turbo it?

why not the v6 and turbo that?!?! LOL
because i have been a car fan my whole life and i shake my head at every pu$$y in a v6 american muscle car. there is no pride under that hood or behind the wheel. while an import having a v6 is very respectable as most of them are 4bangers. get it.

Thanks for all the evaluations on my questions and not my life i chose to share with you guys. i think i will go ask the camaro guys if the mt82 6sp is in the v6 as well as the v8 mustangs, they seem to know about a little more about how cars work.

?
okay looks like i have to answer my own question using another forum since all the MODDED mustang guys dont know crap about modding.

here it is:

"T-82 Transmission: V6 vs V8
Another topic of interest...although the 2011 V6 and V8 Mustangs share the "same transmission", both getting MT-82's, they do have differences. I thought it would be nice to have a thread detailing the differences between them.

For starters, I noticed that they have different gear ratios.

V6 / V8
1st: 4.236 / 3.66
2nd: 2.538 / 2.43
3rd: 1.665 / 1.69
4th: 1.238 / 1.32
5th: 1.00 / 1.00
6th: 0.70 / 0.65

I think they are also using different clutches. And though I have never seen it discussed, I seriously doubt the V6 transmission will be equipped with skip-shift.

A side note: Going back to my inquiry about how a 390 lb/ft engine could be used with a 375 lb/ft rated transmission, after doing some searching, I found a possible explanation -- the transmissions are probably rated based on their weakest link, and the 375 lb/ft may be for the overdrive gear which will probably never see the full 390 lb/ft of torque for extended periods. Not sure how fast you would have to be going to be at over 4k RPM in 6th. That, and the ratings are probably somewhat conservative to begin with. "

Wow !!! This kid is a Rocket scientist!!! Your car knowlegde is so vast... Ever heard of a Buick Grand National??? Its a V6 !!! (Fast and the Furious must be your favorite movie of all time)... DORK !!!!!!!!

Lol...well guys he does have a point...he didn't ask for a life lesson, he just wanted some answers to his question!

It's his money and views and this ISSS a tech section...so i see why he might be defensive!

Long time lurker here, so Joker, these guys mean well and DO know their stuff....idk i guess just a bad start!

I don't see them so much as life lessons but more as modding direction. Folks are just trying to help the guy get more for his money and anyone who is broke but able to mod a ride knows that being able to do things on the cheap in important. So spend 35-40k modding a new v6 into a v8 or wait and spend 20-30 on a used 5.0. Am I the only retard who see's which choice makes sense?
