okay i woudn't say drag specific! you want to talk drag...start looking at 4.3+ haha

they main problem with standards and 4.10's, city driving you have to shift a ton because of how short the firth few gears are...a lot of people say it's to steep! but i know a few s197's who have them and don't mind it at all!

If you don't mind shifting a ton i'd go 4.10, i mean there really is a difference there! and i doubt you'll be going f/i with this car, but if you are 3.73 is the way to go then!

He did, I saw it myself. :D LOL.

Eh, I drive about 50-75 miles a day I'll be getting 3.55's for sure.
But in all honesty I want to see the difference between the two because it just doesnt seem that big, im guessing I could be wrong

Hahaha, my appointment isnt in stone yet, SO DONT TEMPT ME WITH 4.10'S! I friend made a good point...... I said that my top speed would be limited with 4.10's, but then he said "so? where do you have the most fun? Top speed? or getting there?" So DONT TEMPT ME!
You and your friend also missed a vital point: cost of gas, gas prices rising, and the amount of fuel you'll be burning just to cruise on the freeway, especially if you drive a lot. $3 extra dollars a road trip adds up extremely quickly.

I am at about 2600 at 80 if I not mistaken, and I still get 19 in the city during weeks I dont drag and 17 the weeks I do so not bad at all imo, but to each his own

Anyways what do yall think about the new hurst shifter I drag alot and shifts in the 2011 slow me down at the track. My buddy has an 08 gt and his hurst is awesome I am thinking about making that my next mod

A 4.10 final drive is great for 05-10 'Stangs, all around. And for automatic 11+'s. One thing you have to remember, SlowV6, is with the early S197's, you were using a 5-speed transmission. Meaning there's 20% more shifting to be done on the way up for those with '11s and up. Think about how quickly you go through 6-speed gears, and then squish them down some more. Probably have to throw in an extra shift to exit the quarter mile, hmm?

I would recommend 4.1+ gears for someone interested in drifting their 'Stang. Outside of that, I wouldn't.

everyone here makes valid points.

Im not too concerned with gas right now. I only drive about 20-30 miles a day, and most of that is in traffic..... so when its the weekend and its time to play.....well..... then im going to have a heavy foot anyway :) So im going to stick with 3.73's. Sure i like the fuel economy, but if i was going to be a fuel economy nut, then i wouldnt have bought a mustang!

The hurst shifter looks pretty sweet. I have been looking at the Barton myself. I have never had a short shifter and it looks pretty crisp.

having had both in automatics...the difference is there! i mean 3.73 ALL the way to 4.10's....thats a big jump

i totally see your point, but at the end of the 1/4 even with the 5spd your at the top of third and shifting into 4th at the end...

not to mention i've seen gt500's with 4.10's and there all 6spd's...more shifting yes...but if like to drive your car and don't mind it, why not get the extra gear

moar gear = better

Because each shift consumes an amount of time that your engine isn't applying power to the wheels. Tighten the grouping too tightly, and you're adding +1 shift that mix, meaning whereas you once exited in 5th on the 6-speed, you're now throwing in 6th as well. Tenths of a second.. And I'm not big on drag, but that doesn't strike me as a particularly good thing. Personally, it was always my intent to F/I my 6 to make up for what "You could have got a GT for only $5,000 more", so I may have a biased outlook.

Also, first is supposedly way too steep to use outside of driving up walls with the 4.1's... Gearsets, gearsets, where you at?

i kind of forgot about the standard...used to dragging with auto's! lol auto can make power between shifts, standards stop the power!

but then again, all that power loss your talking about, if you can actually drive a standard then you'll be just fine!

i mean people do it, have done it and will continue to do it so i don't think it's that big of a deal

Repeatedly went 'fast' against a 2010 M3 BMW.

When we finally hit a red light, the guys in the bmw said to me:

"Is THAT stock?"

And

"Damn thats a quick car."

All I could say back was "I wish I had THAT car." lol

I've learned with 3.55 gears that if I'm going around 60, I can drop it into 3rd on my auto and launch pretty damn quick.

Disclaimer: This all took place on an empty road at 1am during a long drive home from watching Fast Five.
