I was wondering what everyones reasons for choosing a mustang 5.0 fox.
I started out a son of a short time IHRA record holding, chevy driving, father, that never really pushed his "Chevy or die" mentality on me.

I became a mustang guy by chance when I was 17. I got one as my 4th car. 12years later I am on my 6th mustang. I have had every chance in the world to stray from them, but I really have not. I think for me, the #1 thing is the aftermarket on the car, I think the mustang fox totally set the pace for the aftermarket that we have today. Next is weight, and finally looks, make no mistake, I dont think they look better than a lambo or somthing like that, but there is somthing to be said for that econobox witha V8, all business look.

What did It for you guys?

When I was in highschool the fox mustang was the car to drive. I went to school with about 10-15 guys that drove mustangs and hung out with a lot of them. At the time I was a Camaro guy and I got whooped on all the time by the mustangs. I rode in a friend of mine's 500 hp F/I lx and that was it for me. Mustangs became my dream car and I never could afford one until about 4 yrs ago. Now that I have one, I'll let myself get into all kinds of debt and sell about everything else that I own before I sell that car.

I loved the looks, and loved the sound! I got this car before i could legally drive (15)....My dad gave me a budget, and told me to pick a car...It was no question i wanted either a 5.0 mustang or a small truck..Found this car, fell in love, end of story.

Some of it has to do with what fogged306 said too, i was in middle school, and i remember high school letting out and seeing all the kids go out to their cars, and i remember three kids with fox bodies following eachother out of the parking lot and lighting up the tires when they got onto the highway. I know two of them personally now from meeting them on the street, cool guys.

My sister got a 73 Mustang which I eventually inherited a few years later. I pretty much beat it to death even before I had my drivers license. My friend got a 79 turbo cobra and then a few others starting getting them. More of my friends were GM but not really the Camaro with a few old school Mopar guys in the mix. Each person had his loyalty but no one tried to convert anyone and there was no pissing contests either. We all kind of just hung out. Fast, you took care of it, and you worked on it were the only things that mattered to anyone. The people with various trucks seemed to defend their brand more then the cars guys did.
In 91 I bought a new GT which I still have to this day. I bought my 88 last year. If a good deal pops up for a 95 or later, I'll get a third one.

Because my sister is three years younger than me and when she was looking for a cheap car, she casually remarked to me that there was a 5.0 Mustang listed for $4000. I was driving a Corolla at the time, so that sounded pretty damn cool to me even though I wasn't in the market for a car.

My sister put her car funds towards the Mustang, my parents picked up the rest as a graduation gift and I gave the Corolla to my sister.

Like most of us here, I imagine a lot of my car indoctrination came from my dad. Anyone learn completely on their own? My dad's first car (which was more like on indefinite loan from a much older friend) was a 351C Torino which met an unfortunate end at the hands of 4 palm trees. He had a purely lethal Super Bee after that so his greatest performance brand loyalty was to Dodge, but he never pushed one manufacturer over the other. He has great reverence and amazing knowledge of all muscle car models and he doesn't bash on any anyone. . . as long as it's a domestic V8. It doesn't matter how fast your boosted and nawzed ricer goes, he'd rather have a V8 anything, period.

He also loved the cut down, minimality of the muscle car era where putting a huge engine in a car was the main goal, at the cost of power windows, radio, A/C, etc. I agree whole heartedly and I rely exclusively on my 2/60 A/C. And I'd rather die than buy a car ('stang or not) that has six cupholders and LCD GPS. In the end though, that's what makes me love the Fox - I hate the contoured, ergonomic bullshit in all the newer models. And after pulling a engine apart for the first time, it's my steadfast decision to have a pushrod engine over modular, regardless of power difference.

The little bastard just grew on me.

I got my love of ford especially mustangs from my parents. My mom would always tell me stories of the two mustangs she used to own and so my admiration for the car only grew. My first car was a 1990 4 cylinder mustang hatchback. I had it for a few years before screwing up the tranny.

After that I spent the next five years going through 3 SN-95 stangs, but none of them could equal in comparison to a fox, so in March I sold my current stang a 98GT and found the stang I have now. I don't know what it is, but something about a fox mustang with the 5.0 just spells badass.

lol well i have just started driving this year and i originally had a 95 trans am, i was never die hard chevy but i was more a fan for them, well on my tenth day with the freedom of a licence i ran into a hog wire fence and took out 6 posts, my first total. i then had to get something back and was looking at other T/As until i finally searched for 5.0s and i found it, just 60k for 6 grand, and i knew there was no way i could wreck this one.

what go me was about 6 months after i moved here. i was sitting at a stop light, and in my left ear all i could here was the deep rough idle of something badass. i looked over and it was a magenta notch w/ skinnys up front and runing drag radials in the rear. he looked at me and smiled. i was to busy checking out his car to see the light turn green. next thing i know hes side ways in the intersection. at that moment i realized i wanted something similar.

I wanted to buy I mustang since I was 14 and was going to save money for a 67 or 70 style but never had enough money to buy even on that needed to be restored. But I also liked the foxes and the power of the 5.0 and decided to buy one because they are a hell of alot cheaper than a classic muscle car. And the aftermarket parts for the 5.0 is very plentiful. And Im also a diehard FORD guy

I grew up in the 70's ,owning 3 chevelles, 1 69 442 olds, 84 z28 ho camero, 79 trans am, several trucks, but my 88 GT is my favorite of all my cars.
I love the engine lope of the 5.0 & the look & compliments.
Mt sister had a 65 mustang when they first came out, her husband had a 66 convertible camero.
Older brother is a Vette man.
Stangs are bad ass.

THE SOUND i had a 92 maro with 350 crate and my father totaled it. i got 5 grand out of the deal for a car and my friend had a lx. i was looking for a gt because i loved the ground effects. i found like 3 or 4 of them but the one that cought my eye was the one with no cats and dumped flowmasters. nothing sounds even reletavely close to a fox imho. i love it and will always probably have one. one day to be my kids first (maybe 2nd) car.

well my brother had an 88 GT and we were always workin on it making more power and i stripped all the interior and everything and we turned it into all black and he blew his motor so when we put it back in we decided to put a supercharger on it and so i got to drive it right after he got a tune and that made my mind up to buy one

plus if your like my parents and want your kid to do something productive buy them a 5.0 l and they willl be out in the garage instead of sittin around on the TV

For me it was the sound of the Mustang, nothing could compare to it!! I have owned 2, a 86GT and a 92GT, and will never part with it. A good friend of mine has my 86 and will not sell back to me!! No matter what GM or Dodge throw at it the Mustang always comes back. The aftermarket has made and kept the Fox on top. To me the Fox body is the largest part of the Mustang history in my era. I could go out and get any model year Mustang that I want but I am focused on making my 92 one bad ride. The best part of owning a Fox for me was racing and beating a so-so friend that hated all Fords, you guessed it he drove a 95 Camaro. I will be an old man driving a Fox body :rockon

my whole family is nothing but die hard ford fans..and i just kinda follwed in their footsteps on the ford thing but my mom has always had a thing for mustangs and when i turned 17 or so my mom decided to give me her mustang and since then ive fell in love with it...and another thing yea you can buy a vette from the factory with lets say 400hp but to get any mustang into this range (except for terminator) you have to build it and this gives any beginner like me and good learning experience

i stumbled accross 5.0's by luck! here is the story: so i had just started dating this girl, and she had a friend who was recovering from surrgery. She somehow convinced me to go with her to visit her bedridden friend. We get to this house and everything is real lame and they start talking about girl stuff, so i drift off into my own little word and naturally i am thinking about cars and hotrods etc. And then I look out the window and I see one of the most beautiful things i have ever laid eyes on....it was a beautiful, blue, all original, 1970 BOSS 302! looking at it i noticed parked along side it was green 1995 Mustang GT! the girl that lived there saw me looking at the car, and she suggested that i go talk to her dad about it because he was considering maybe selling the 95', well me being in the market for a car rushed out there and ended up taking it for a test drive and i fell in love that very moment! i bought the car and my dad gave up his spot in the garage so i could park it in there! i will mostlikely own 5.0's for the rest of my life! (money permiting)

everytime i hear that car rev up i am reminded of why i love it so much!!!

hope you enjoyed my story its not every day somebody wants to know why i picked that car!
