I went to the track last night running footbrake. The car did fairly well considering how hot it was. DA was around 2600 ft and it ran a best of 8.49.
Well...in the third round, I'm staged and ready to go; the 3rd amber comes on and I pop the clutch at 5100. I hear a POP and I go nowhere. I get it towed back to the pits and jack it up. I put it in gear and the driveshaft is spinning (I was hoping I'd busted the transmission to be honest since I'm getting a c4 swap together).
I haven't opened it up yet, but I'm pretty sure I've broken the ring gear. Neither of the axles have any give in them, and there was no wobble towing back to the pits. There is ZERO noise from the rear when you put it in gear...it just won't go anywhere.
I had a pretty bad whine on deceleration that got worse when I redid my rear suspension, so I took it to a shop and had them look at it and check the backlash and wear pattern. The owner said the wear pattern is really odd as if the pinion gear was cast just a few thousandths off and said he wasn't sure how much longer it would hold up so I'm hoping that's the only damage.
I'll post pics of the carnage when I have them.
