So got my gears installed and ordered the sct flash tuner. I answered the questions about what I had. Go the tuner loaded it to computer ran it and it pings and rattles under the hood. Returned it to stock ran it...fine absolutly nothing wronng. Put it back on 87 street and then race still ping

* it pings at accleration after already cruising...for example at red light I accel at a norm speed get up to 40 ill be in forth keeping my foot on the pedal just to main tain 40 once I give it a litle gas (no down shift) its pings and rattles seems to oonly happen at/around 1.8k- almost 3.k

Ordered a new tune (don't wory free tunes for life...) lol and I told them in the notes what I just told you...thhat it pings and rattles at tht speed/rpm. He sends me back the tuner I down load the tunes upload the 87 ! Tune and then test drive...still pings/rattles. I call up bama they said that they adjusted the timing as much as they could and slightly changed the air fuel mix/ratio. After talking to the guy at auto zone and bama said to check and possibly change spark plugs air filter fuel filter...checked the air filter its a k&n drop in and its dirty as hellll I cleaned a little bit ima clean it more later but they say change all of that but how come under stock tune its completly "normal" no noises at all

In put anyone)

No chip its a sct flash tuner I told him when I reuqest a new tune and then the next tune when I uploaded it still pings/rattles, he then says I've done pretty much everything I could do to the timing/spark and fuel ratio then he told me the tune is fine and prolly just bad intake fuel filter slightly clogged throtal body bad spark plugs ect but what reason would the tune be doing it but stock(pre tune) it was completly fine

Not sure if it's what you wanna try, but maybe adjusting your timing a little bit might help.
Could be an ignition problem caused by the change in info being processed. Sometimes, if I remember right, pinging can also be caused by pre-ignition burn.

edited to add, the last thought made me think if your performance jumped to much, slight chance your not combusting and exhausting everything.

If you have a ping from inside the motor, the tuner screwed up. Take the tune off until you get it straight so you don't blow it up. I would suggest NOT touching the timing without knowing what you are doing or that car is hooked up to a wide band O2 and dyno.

If anything, just adjust for the gears. I wouldn't adjust timing or A/F at all. Seems like a lot of these threads lately... and all the messed up tunes are from the same source.

Higher Octane, Test Run. If no change with Higher Octaine (and i would run the test a good bit, maybe half a quarter of a tank or a whole quarter) put it back to stock and adjust for gears. report back.

:yes

when i ordered mine back in 07/08 it was fine but now they have become crappier with the tunes

yuppp these threads keep poping up ... I never had tune problems, just issues dealing with them.

At this point you might look into sending your tuner back and contacting VMP for tunes.
best idea EVA!!! :yes

OP,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having troubles with your tunes.

Depending upon what octane the tunes are for, there could be several things causing this issue.

1. is fuel quality. As previously stated, I would run a couple tanks of 93 through the car to make sure it's got good quality gas in it.

2. is fuel system. Are you injectors clean/functioning properly? Is your fuel filter dirty/old? Is your fuel pump the original fuel pump?

3. is intake system. Are there any leaks in the intake system after the MAF? Has the car been smoke-tested/leakdown tested to check for any leaks or bad gaskets?

4. is ignition system. Are your spark plugs good? Plug wires? COPs?

If a car is not 100% before a tune is put on it, the tune is only going to exacerbate the issues the car previously had, even they were minute and unnoticeable.
This is likely why you didn't hear anything before.

Check all of those components and get the car to 100% and you should have no problems. If you wanted to go even further than that and have us help you diagnose the issue, please datalog these driving conditions in which you are experiencing troubles. With these, we can see what adjustments may need to be made much more easily than just looking at your calibration file itself.

Good luck, please let me know if you have any questions in the future!

Have you guys experienced issues with AM or Bama tunes before? If so, please feel free to PM me with information regarding what happened and I will see if there is anything I can do to help.

Not every car is running 100% out there and when tunes are put on these cars, problems are going to arise. The important thing with issues like this is are the fixed and are they fixed and a timely and proper manner. If he has datalogs done tonight, I can have my Tuning Specialists and examine them and have revisions out tomorrow. It all depends on the the preparedness/experience level of both parties as to how issues like this are handled. The more we prepare consumers, the more quickly and easily errors can be corrected.

Unfortunately, SCT/tuning products are non-refundable. I apologize for any inconvenience and/or confusion.

Seems like this forum's V6 section is full of threads about Bama tune issues (I'm new here, but not at all to the whole V6 world). I've never heard of problems like this on the other forums. Might be worth looking into.

Personally, I'd rather put the car on the dyno and do it that way rather than mess around with little handheld tuners and mail order / canned tunes.

well to behonest its fine because, and lest use some common sence here, every car is some what different its like the population of earth theres 6.6 billion of us not one person is exactly the same but similar...

further more i fixed the problem it was not a octane problem, nor a spark plug problem or anything of that nature. yes i will admit my spark plugs do need a changing and my k&n drop in cone filter was kind of dirty but all in all it came down to a timing issue on the pre set tune you guys sent me. i had to go into global spark and take it from 0 and set to -3.all in all i think the tuner is a good tool but the only thing i did not like is when i was told by auto zone and advanced auto and the ford service tech that its more than likely a timing issue were the compressed gas is firing before the closing of the valve and or complete "compression" or completion of the stroke of the piston and they (bama) said they could not go any "leaner" with the timing. but all in all its a mistake were all human so yeah..

again it was a timing issue and yes it would probally of helped with new plugs but, BUT when the care was reset to stock therer was absolutly no pinging or rattling at all which lead me to believe it was the tune but its over with and its back to norm sooo im happy.

thanks guys for your help :D :)
