Wat are some good automatic conversions? Ive replaced my clutch twice within a year and workin on my 3rd TOB, 3rd and 5th gear vibrate at crusing speeds, im already startin to hear some chatter sounding like its comin from either the TOB or the pressure plate! So im sayin **** it and either goin automatic or sellin the car its pissin me off that bad! I had a bone stock C4 in my 93 fox with a BUILT 355W stock convertor and a shitty no stop shifter and run a 8.19 on foot brake, no stall. So im kinda wantin to go that route but with a bigger stall. Im not up to par on trannys but is a C6 a 4 speed or just a lot stronger version of the C4? I have every bolt on plus stage 2 comp cams so its not like im makin tons of power. Maybe a 4R100 with a shift kit and a stall or is that even possible? Like i said im new to this so please bare with me!

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure a C6 just has a larger rotating assembly and it is heavier. C4 takes less hp to spin it

Personally I wouldn't do it. But if it's set in stone go with the factory OD trans with a shift kit. Just my .02

Just so you know the stock 4r70w can handle a ton of power with reliability and if you have it built it will hold even more.

Because the 4r70w is a stock transmission, your not going to run into fitment issues. The biggest issue that I had was getting the shifter possitioned correctly. The pedals will be your next chalenge unless you just decide not to use the clutch pedal. If you swap the pedals you can remove the steering column and it will make it alot easier. Just depends on what you want to do. The reason is because the trans tunnel for the shifter is different for 5-speed and auto's. I have done this swap to my own car and a few others and its just unbolting and bolting everything back in.

Good Luck!

If your not going to be racing competitivly and not really going over 600 rwhp then I wouldn't worry about the manual valve body. You will need to get a computer for the automatic trans. There are alot of people that are switching from auto to 5-speeds, you can probably just trade them. I swapped with a guy, that is how I got mine.

Remember that you will still need to have the pats turned off unless you trade steering column with the person your doing the swap with.

I have a stock auto but the shift points are 'firmed" thru an sct canned tune. The thing shifts into second hard enuff to spin the tires (granted they are 315 sumicrappos). Before the tune, it would take a couple seconds to go from 1-2, now its is a bullet quick shift. What would be the difference between adjusted shift points and a shift kit?

I had a sct tuner on mine and after a while it started to grind in the tranny and it kept throwing codes for the shifter solenoids. I would recomend a shift kit to replace the tuner. I just got mine back from the shop a few weeks ago and had the whole transmission redone with a shift kit and torque convertor and I noticed a Huge different over the tuner. Now instead of shifting harder in second and spinning the tires I have to worry about going sidewayz :p

auto swap has got to be up top for best mods done to my car
Maybe it's because mine has always been an auto...but you sound crazy right now. Lol. I'm wanting to swap mine over to a 5 or 6 spd when I get back from my deployment. I hate the auto.

something new is always more appealing. Auto guys want sticks and stick guys want autos. Everyone wants wat they dont have. :)

And im not gonna trade anyone trannys because when i do my swap im keepin all my 5 speed stuff so that when i get tired of automatic i can change it back and while its out im gonna have it built a little. upgrade syncros, all new bearings and such as that.

+1 on a 4R70W and a good shift kit. If you were closer to me Lopen you could come drive my 01 auto it gets down!

Most people that have 5 speeds and want autos is because they cant drive it. I had an auto truck and then a year later i got my 5 speed mustang. Even if i was making big power, i wouldnt go to an auto just because it feels so good to get behind the wheel and row gears....i love it. But yeah, go to a 4r70 with a shift kit and a stall. It will do good for ya. ;)
