Im in austin too, beeatches!
By the way, 89 in lbs = 7.41666667 ft lbs.
The only thing with holding the cam sprocket by hand (no wedge) is that the chain tensioners (behind front cover) are spring loaded and it may be hard to get the sprocket back on if the tensioner moves on ya. Ehh, try it.
Wrath-didn't know you were doing headers today!
Let me know on the cams.

Take a zip tie, wrap it around the chain, under the gear. PULL THAT BITCH TIGHT.

The cam gear will pull down. It should take up all the slack in the chain.

It should hold that way pretty much forever.

This is an untested theory BTW. But I am betting it could work. HOWEVER, it may pull the gear down in to where you cant get the cam on it. So I cant say for sure it would work.

Ill be wrapping them up tomorrow if you want to come up. I didnt want to bug you and ask you to come all the way up north twice, but feel free if you want :D Ill Probably go out into the garage around noonish.

Cams should be here tomorrow night, so whenever is good for you after that.

well wraith... no special tools, no mechanic knowledge, my friend had none as well. Thanks to AnotherS197 for helping me on the phone!! I installed the hot rods and the motor cranked a full cycle.. so hopefully i put it together and it runs!!

well i might wait until i have everything installed.. that way it just takes my breath away.. plus i have to figure what the hell is wrong with my tuner... but i might slap it back together and start it up to just hear it... never know! but might just wait until i have the delete plugs in... like 3 hours of work for me cause i am slow
plus i have to install the headers that come at the end of the month, dont really want to unjack the car since it is on 4 stands!

Alright man I gotcha. Haha maybe we will both be starting them up at the same time. Im gonna be so busy for the next week I won't be installing my stuff until after Christmas. I can hardly wait!

I've been following this thread from jump. I've been really intimidated by cams, but I think I'm gonna try it myself when I can afford them. Thanks for putting it all out there the way y'all have.

Cams will have to wait until spring I think but I did started the headers in the unheated garage tonight, while it was still a balmy 45 degrees.
Coffee, a few layers of clothes and full of piss and vinegar, and it will get done. Rust is my enemy

Well if you are thinking about cam install and you don't do it yourself, well nsr's... I have replaced a battery, and put on my cai, and that ismy mechanical backround.. well I haven't started the car yet, but I am sure it will run!

ungh.. Im up. Went to bed at like 12:50, woke up at 4:30. WIDE AWAKE, but dead tired. My eyes feel like someone threw sand in them, and like someone is squeezing them.

Finishing up the headers today is going to suck a lot of ass.

And at 5:45 I cant even go get a damned kolache yet.

Yeah what really pushed it over the edge for me to do it myself, was the fact that I have a LOT of mechanical background. When I was posting pics of the motor I built for my Forester, I was like, "WTF man, you can pull a motor, strip it, have a short block built, put it back together, and put it back in the car, by yourself, but you cant do cams or headers that almost everyone is telling you are easy? WTF PUSSY MAN THE HELL UP, GET OFF YOUR LAZY ASS AND GO DO IT!"

And I am WAY over emotional right now, because I am on 4 hours of sleep. I dont do well when I get less than 6 hours of sleep, it REALLY screws with my head if I dont.

I used to have 2 of them. I ended up giving them away because I was a crappy owner. I heard a few weeks later the girl had died. I had her for like 7 years, I was really bummed out. I know how you feel dude. Beardeds are great pets.
