I was reading the October 05 issue of MM&FF while I was downstairs smoking a cig... and I came across a built V6 in a Fox running 10s.
His mods? To start it off, he bought an 88 LX and then found himself an 01 Mustang 3.8L V6.
Reasons he got the 01 V6;
a. they come with a beefy block with super-thick main bearing caps.
b. factory windage tray
c. the later engines are zero balanced; not relying on exterior balancers to keep the engine in equilibrium.
What'd he do to it?
First, he found himself an F150 V6 crank and bolted it in with wiseco pistons and eagle rods. (never would have thought of that)
Next, he bored/honed the block from it's 3.810" bore to a larger 3.860" bore. He now has a displacement of 4.3L, and much stronger internals for the nitrous. More on the Nitrous a little later on...
He plopped in a Crower cam with a custom grind of 0.530/0.540" and offers a duration of 226/226 @ .500 for both intake and exhaust.
Head choice: 99+ Split Port induction (SPI) pieces.
Intake plenums used; WINDSTAR MINI-VAN upper intake, (because it offers more intake volume) mated with the 01's lower intake with the IMRC (Intake Manifold Runner Control) butterflies removed. You now have yourself a 12 runner intake.
After market modifications: 70mm BBK TB adapted to fit the manifold, 24lb/hr injectors.
As for the Nitrous... he dropped in a 125 hp shot from ZEX.
Drivetrain:
C4 3sp auto with a 3500-stall, JW flywheel, Ford Racing driveshaft, 4.10 gears. Moser 31-spline spool & axle combined with an 8.8.
He rolls on 27x10.5 Hoosiers with the help of UPR control arms and an antiroll bar.
Now, all these mods and build up, what did he run?
how's 10.63 @ 124 mph sound?
I think I wanna build a V6.
