So i have a vortech v1 S trim that I am about to put on my mustang and my new shortblock has a very low compression so I am looking at running higher boost than the 10-12 lb pulley that is on the kit right now... Im wanting to be in the neighborhood of 15-18 lbs... Compression is 8:1

Is there a fitment chart or anything I can refer to?

I have looked around in SEARCH so plz don't state anything about it thx

What size pulley is on it now? if you drop it about a half an inch it should get you there. That would pretty much max an s-trim.

Do you have an intercooler or powerpipe? On a V1 S without an intercooler you would need to run atleast a 2.87 with powerpipe. If you are really looking to make those 18lbs your best bet would be to throw the smallest pulley available on it, which is a 2.62. With a pulley that small you will need to go with an 8 rib setup, 10% or 15% overdrive crank pulley, or Thump Racing Tensioner. All three of those are very expensive items. I think the best thing to do would be to send that blower to Vortech and have it upgraded to an Si for $700. The Si will produce ~ 2psi more with the same pulley. 15-16psi would be able to be achieved with a 3.12 pulley and powerpipe and you would most likely be able to keep your 6 rib setup and stock crank pulley.

Im running all stock top end aftercooled setup... Im just gonna run the smallest pulley and hope for the best :) People are saying 8:1 compression is way too low, will the car f'ing run or not is all im concerned about? I imagine it will with a good tune, it will just be safe boosting with a lower compression

It will run fine. The only concern would be belt slip with such a small pulley like I mentioned earlier.

Okay thank you I know the pulley that is on the car produced 11.5 to 12lbs of boost... Everyone is just saying you "NEED" to run higher boost but I think it will be fine and I asked my builder b4 I bought the motor too

You don't need to increase the boost, but why build the motor if you are not going to take advantage of it. 8:1 is meant to have the **** boosted out of it. lol

That is prwtty low for a centri. I think its gonna feel sluggish downlow. Aftercoolers have hardley any boost loss, so I would run a 2.8" or 2.7" reichard racing pulley with a gates micro v belt. You should hit 16-17psi no problem.

That sounds good man... I would love to boost the **** out of it but I have exhausted my funds lol... Unless there is a cheap way to up the boost, I have to be done spending money on it... Only reason I went with this motor is because I got a great deal on it... All forged internals, kellog crank, windage tray, fully balanced yadayada yada all for $2000 with a cobra block... Im gonna see what my builder can do to get the most boost out of it but I cant spend much more lol

Youll need a retune going from stock 9.4:1 compression to 8:1 compression. So before it goes back on the dyno, throw a smaller pulley on there. Look for a used Rechard Racing 2.7 pulley, or buy a new one at Lethal Performance for $150. And run a Gates 107.38 belt, par # K061073.

Cant you use Cosmetic head gaskets to slightly raise the compression? Ive read people doing that, but others dont think its a great idea?

I vote for a 2.7 pulley. And a powerpipe. You should easily hit max boost with an aftercooler, should see 16-17psi and overspinning it. Vortechs love to be over spun

Trying to get some more input on this now... What would be ur guys best guesstimate on a 2.7 pulley? 2.6? 2.5? I have an S trim so I cant go to crazy but Im looking to be at about 15-18lbs :)
There is not going to be much difference between those sizes on a V1 S. Difference between a 2.5 and 2.7 might be ~ 1.5psi. Vortech sells a 2.62.

Do an Si upgrade. I hit 12lbs with a stock 3.6 pulley and power pipe. Ive seen other SI aftercooled setups with nothing but a 3.33 pulley and a power pipe making 14lbs....

If your looking to make big boost out of the v1 s i would look into an si upgrade. the cost of the upgrade is about the same as an over drive crank. then you wont have to run such a small pulley to hit your goals.
