After spending Much time searching for someone trying to put together a build with similar intentions in mind I am getting a bit confused...I need any and all advice you guys can throw at me, along with any recommended reading/sources.
I have just landed a 04 GT Vert with 0 mods at present. It has a knock on cold start-up that sounds identical to the dreaded "first start after oil change" which could very well be a drain back issue, but could be the beginning of the end as well....with 150000 mi on it, I am thinking it is just a matter of time anyhow....so I thought I would start getting a replacement together. I have done only limited engine work before, but am looking to have a little fun with this build, and of course save some $$$. Here are my unique parameters, at least what I am hoping for:
I don't really "need" more than 400whp if that much even. as this will be a DD, occasional strip fun
I may be open to supercharging later on, but likely <10PSI
I am thinking I should build a motor while driving the current one, but this is optional.
I am not made of $$$:naughty: but not willing to go too cheap either
I do not want to completely kill the MPG, but I am fairly sure I want a mean cam....
I want to use the factory wiring and electronics...
I would like a good chance at getting >50k miles out of it
Other than those things, I really am open to any and all suggestions.
