What does Topaz do? Its like Photoshop?

Your ears must have been burning b/c I was getting ready to PM you and ask how Illustrator differs from PS.

I checked out the Illustrator books at Barnes and Nobles last night, but I couldn't find any really good books on Illustrator (like the "cheat" books for PS, etc.)

Topaz software seems to play more with HDR stuff. Photomatix isn't bad either.

Here's a link to my Flickr stuff. You can easily see the difference with Topaz. Some of the Photomatix stuff is watermarked b/c I never ended up buying their full version. It doesn't really stand up to Topaz.

You will have to go back a few pages to get to the Topaz stuff. I used it more on scenic shots at that time.

Illustrator is completely different from Photoshop! It uses vector whereas Photoshop uses raster. Illustrator defaults to CMYK as the color mode, Photoshop defaults to RGB. Illustrator is mainly used for print and Photoshop is used for web and photo editing. Theres plenty of other differences that I could get into, but those are the biggest differences. It would be impossible to get the same effect using Illustrator rather than Photoshop and vice-versa.

I dont mess much with photography and such so Topaz prolly wouldn't be of any use to me...I do a little bit of photo editing but its not my forte I guess you could say. I'm a print designer, so Photoshop is helpful but Illustrator and InDesign are both very necessary.

CS5 Extended has a cool 3D mesh/distortion control that is called "Repousse" ~

it takes a special driver, video card and some extra sticks of RAM to "Maybe" get it to work right. It's pretty bad ass. That's about as close as I come to Illustrating (for now)

GL has to be operating properly. I think it's actually a glitch for now. Maybe they will have it resolved in CS6 (hopefully) cuz it's bitchin'! (actually to be totally honest, the 3D "Repousse" is a little cheesy, but it's cool flipping fonts and twisting them all around in circles)
