want to sound like cobra

so this is my first post here and this might be a stupid question but here it goes.

there is a 03-04 cobra around my place and the thing sounds awsome and i want that sound, im not talking about the blower sound, (i want that too) but just the exhaust sound
its a very very deep sound and from the back it dont look like he has mufflers.

i know you cant hear the sound for me but figured you might be able to help and know kinda what im talking about. i like loud.

my real question is, would i get a sound like that if i just replace me axel back with straight pipes.

i have full JBA right now and that includes shorty headers, x pipe and what looks like high flow cats (but not 100% on the cats) i need them because of emisions, but i could make something that i can just bolt in and out too if i need to.

all the help is appreciated, more dumb ones to come.. thanks

ya i was reading about that on here, i have just been a guest for about 3 weeks. maybe i should just stop him and ask him what he has.

the only way you will get the sound of a Terminator is to get a Terminator.
you will not get the sound of a 4V 03-04 Cobra with a 3V GT. not going to happen.

but, you can have a great Mustang exhaust sound with your 3V GT.
there are a lot of exhaust combo's out there that will get you a loud, deep, mean sounding exhaust.
but what i'm saying is to not try and duplicate something that is totally different, and rather try and make your exhaust the best it can be.
and it can be pretty darn good.


i think mine sounds pretty good.
its BBK LT's and o/r x pipe, and custom catback with M80's and MBRP muffler deletes.

I know what you mean. Your sounds nice.

I don't think mine sounds bad the way it is but I want it to be loud sitting still and the. Crazy when it's going.

My exhaust is good when I'm on the gas but when I just set the cruise at 70-80 there is almost zero sound and I want it to sound like I'm in 3rd gear doing 70-80.

If that makes any sence at all.

Maybe I will start with the muffler deletes and see where that puts me. I'm going to take them off one day next week for the measurements and take some pipe to work and weld something up

Like said above, the cobra is a 4v Dohc motor. The car you have is a 3v sohc. It can't be exact. But swapping that x pipe out for a prochamber or an h pipe will help.

I've wanted a sound like that for a while now, love to tinny but deep 2v sound. Finally accepted the fact that it's a different car and one day someone will be saying the same thing about it. Got o/r x and m80s to be installed next week, i'll let you know what I think...

Add two cams and a higher idle rpm :dunno


Edit: not sure for you s197 GTs but my v6 idle is 500rpm where my friends new edge had an idle at 1100rpm when I start cold it sits at about 1000rpm and sounds lovely. Maybe you can tune it for a higher rich idle for that throaty idle note?

I just watched your video and thats LOUD. I'm not sure that's what I mean when I want loud. Lol. But I can't wait to hear your pipes.

Just so others know, I work in a steel mill and I am a welder among other things so I can make whatever I want (almost). And I am for sure going to make some "test pipe" style to put in place of the cats, this way when I need to put them back in then I can. I also don't know for sure what the guy put in before, like I said its header back and don't know what stock cats look like to know for sure if that's what I have.

Why is a H pipe better then a X?

An H pipe is a deeper tone. While an X pipe makes a more raspy tone. The x pipe is shaped like and x and the h pipe is shaped like an h :lol

A prochamber is the deepest of the 3 though.

I was just looking at the pro chamber and I am going to look into that. I live right around the corner from summit racing and I'm going to go up there this weekend and keep doing some research on all of it.

I feel like I over did this thread and some of these questions could be searched for easy and I don't want to become " that guy". Lol
