I'm looking for a motor to swap in my 96 GT. I've been reading up on the forums about the Mark VIII swap and I'm starting to like the idea but the more I read the more opinions I'm seeing which are drastically different. I've narrowed my search down to three motors.

90k 98 Mark VIII 4v $800

90k 99 GT 2v pi $1200

80k 98 GT 2v npi $750

Any advise?

First of all I would go ahead and take the NPI off the list . . . it's a waste of time and money. The PI is a more straight forward swap and requires less special parts than a Mark VIII. I personally have never done a Mark VIII swap, but it should make the most power of the 3 listed. :2cents

yeah dude if your going to do the swap and can afford it id go with the 4v. theres a reason they put em in the cobras man. alot of potiential for future mods and they freaking sound awsome, oh and theres the hp...and the boosting....and your buddies wont laugh at you when you pop your hood because you wont have a small engine. lmao! 4 valve it man!

^^ what are you talking about the windsor motors run alot harder then the romeos. Dont ever speak again about the pi swap please its incompetent as all hell.

My brothers 00 gt ran harder then any romeo that we have ever raced mod for mod. In fact all he had was full bolt ons and 373s and it never lost to a romeo motor plant 2v. Have plenty of vids to back it up lol

There the same thing, the only thing that makes the windsor engine better is an 8 bolt crank as opposed to a 6 bolt crank on a romeo. Aside from that, its just pressed on cam gears vs bolt on cam gears and number of valve cover bolts. :yes

+1:swordfight:

It's not hate, it's just the wrong kind of motor for a mustang IMO. I just like to wind the piss out of a mustang and have all the power on the top end. The 4V is perfect for that.

I would totally rock a 4.6L 2V PI in my cougar because it's powerband suits the car.
Kinda wish the mustangs all came with 4v's..... The 01' bullitt was originally supposed to have a 4v, but Ford was like no, need to save them for all the Cobra's that are gunna get wrecked.

I've been thinking about the same thing. I think I'm going to get a Mark VIII engine, but the year depends on what I'll do. If I can get a 97/98, I'll swap the whole thing over with the intake and everything, eventually swaping over to cobra intake stuff when funds allow. If it's a 96 or below, I'll pull the 4v heads and install PI heads/cams/intake which should give it around 12.1:1 compression and see how that is.

Well I think I'm set on the 4v. I'm going to try to pick it up this week. I'll post an update when I get it. (with pics )
^good deal. considering you are already going to be pulling the motor and given the prices you listed for us, the 4v would be the way to go in your case. it will run harder than the 2v's and isnt much more work to swap in your car. let us know how it works out!

Yeah i know they are the same thing but hes acting like they arent good motors... Lol like i stated before the 99-00 gts run harder then the romeos I think most of it is gearing from the trans as the tr3650 has longer gear ratio then the t45. But my bros 00 gt and my friends 00 gt always beat down on the romeos.
