Hi guys, I haven't been on here in a while because my cars seen some down time and I've been very busy. Lately I have got the itch to mod though and with some of my leftover boost stuff getting sold, I'm about to order myself a set of cams. I've decided on the MHS stage 2 n/a camshafts and am probably going to try and run them with the stock springs, unless Nick I believe his name is, tells me otherwise. Just wanted to put this out there to see what you guys think about the MHS stage 2's and see if my hope for stock valvesprings will work/ is there anything else I should know before doing cams.

Also I know numbers are numbers and they aren't really that important to me but I'm hoping for about 280-285 whp with these cams and also hoping to keep my torque figure pretty close to what it is. How possible is that or am I way off?

My buddy just bolted on MHS Stage 2's on stock springs. Dyno'd a little under 300 with bolt-ons. He did the MHS degree service where they degree them on a blue printed motor. Just bolt on. You should be good.

That's awesome! Exactly what I was looking to hear! If it's not too much trouble, if you talk to him could you ask him his torque figure? Hoping not to lose much with these if any.

Ouch, so today I called around to compare some install prices and I was quoted from $750-1200 for the install and $350-475 for a tune :shitbrick This sucks hard because I don't really have the time to install them myself. Also I know a lot of guys have been doing it lately but I don't really think I'm trying to mess with them from my lack of knowledge and the fact that I don't have all the tools. Pretty pissed, I was hoping for a $600 install but I'm not going to find that apparently. Really don't want to back burner this thing again

I understand it's like a 6 hour job but some of these shops have ridiculous labor charges! I also almost punched the guy through the phone when he told me $475 for tune and dyno, that's just crazy.

You should check labor and dyno prices before you buy parts. Sounds like you have been doing things in reverse lately.

Cam + spring installs around here go for $850-$1100. N/A dyno tunes are $450. Your garage shows that you already have a tuning device and tune. Are you going back to the same place for a tune? It should be cheaper for returning customers.

there is a lot to factor in on installing cams. some drop right in and some fight to the bitter end. i installed a set of 2r cams into a customers 04 2v and he loves them. the car runs strong for what it is. i did to a set of heads, and springs in it as well.

I didn't buy anything yet just an idea I was thinking of. I have heard of guys getting them installed for as little as 300 bucks so I wasn't expecting to hear 1200 just for labor. I'm not going back to the same place for a dyno (which was 350 the first time) because the guy hasn't answered my calls or emails for literally over a year now. It's like he doesn't want business I don't understand him. Either way I'm going to still get the cams. I have heard nothign but good about them and I hopefully can get some help from a buddy when it comes to installing them. I just can't believe how high prices are compared to most stories I've heard.

Did you try Nightshift? It's a new shop in Edison right off 1&9 before the big bridge near the lowes movie theater..They're mostly turbo guys, but I'm sure they could do good for a cam install on a mustang lol. In house Dyno also. They did good work on a buddy's sti. He also swapped an LS motor into a miata lol so he's definitely got knowledge on American stuff.

Thanks man good to know! I bet that was the miata I saw at raceway park lol ugly red and white thing with a huge wing but the 28" slicks and quiet exhaust didn't hide the ls motor and the 11.8 second run he did lol.

I forget if it had any white, but yeah it's POS red, with a huge black wing, and he built it for autocross; it actually has a cobra IRS. BUT that didn't stop him form running i think a 10.4 at one point hahaha last I heard he was planning on spraying it to get 9's. But yeah, give them a call and see what they'd be willing to do for you!

That's crazy about the Miata and funny that it's the same one lol.

O3O thanks for finding that out for me man I repped you for the extra effort. Those are really good numbers I'm glad to hear that.

Night Shift turned out to be a great idea! Thanks man, I had no idea they were even there. Guy is a really cool dude and had the best price on install so far at $680. Their dyno price is a little high (450) which sucks but what are you gonna do. I'll definitely be considering them when I get everything together. Reps for a good hookup. :drink

I'm about an hour from Bloomfield. I'd need someone with Diablosport sadly but I appreciate you letting me know about him.

Glad to hear it worked out man, they're good guys! The dyno price is high because of the guy they get to tune the cars. A guy who goes by JR. He's a real well regarded tuner on the east coast. Flown all over for tunes lol. Enough to get him a ferrari, gt-r, etc. so that was enough reason for me to believe he was good haha. Definitely let us all know how it goes, and message me if you end up going there! I'd love to be there for the dyno since it's so close lol

Tube prices suck I installed the cams myself called for a tune price and they wanted $500. So I have cams and no tune for now hopefully I'll get a tune by the end of the summer when I can save some money
