So I'm gearing up to do my taxes and I'm torn to get my gears installed, a 5.4 dohc or new rims. The 5.4 needs heads and valve covers and I can find those pretty easily I think. Just wondering what you guys think.

The motor swap is quite a job, gears will help your 60 ft times. It's your money.

I can get the engine for $500 and get the rest when I get cash. I have 3.73 gears all set to go in this spring and I just don't like doin the pi swap. :dunno

Sure you can get it for 500, but if i was you i'd be doing a total rebuild. As for myself i'm pulling and building it this winter. Already bought some PI heads and cams (won be using cams though) will be buying Comp stage 1 cams and a PI intake manifold with some other bolt ons.

A DOHC 5.4 would be a whole ton of fun though. Either way gears should be done, makes the whole car a lot more fun to drive.

I bought new rims and tires with some tax money. Been wanting black saleens for the car since I got it. Was that or gears..and had I gone gears I wouldn't have had been able to put the power to the ground because just had cheap Nexen directionals on there..

That's what I was thinking plus I was going to turbo or supercharge it down the road.

I have Nexen N3000 275/40/17 and haven't had a problem but that is gonna change I hope.

Id love to do a m8 swap into mine. 5.4 is big and heavy. But I vote for the engine swap. Better plat form. Just know its will cost more than any other mod you have listed.

it seems its decided then. and trust me. if you were to just simply get some rims down the road you will be like so
walking up to the car "wow that looks good, damm my car looks nice"
getting in and driving "eh, its ok but kinda slow"

Or you could do the 5.4 swap and fins some good cheap used wheels and be like so
walking up "man i like my car"
getting in and driving" hollyyyyyy ff******ing crappppp this is AWWWEEEESOMEMEEE"

option 2 sounds better. youll regret doing otherwise

True but I'm OK with a slow car for now. We will see what happens when the time comes

Damn, thats not the right attitude! LOL
I say do the engine swap, wait on the gears for now, especially if you plan on turbo or supercharger, then decide exactly which gears you want. I went 3.73 to 4.10 back to 3.55 for my turbo. Also, my personal preference, Id rather have a fast car first, then work on looks, but of course Im not a 20yr old kid either lol

The 2v 5.4l is a pretty straight forward swap. I'll take pics of mine if you need help installing it. Not much harder than replacing the stock 4.6 except some minor fitting adjustments needed on the exhaust manifold. You'll need an intake too, unless you're ok with the truck intake. A 32 valve would be wicked but it'd require a little more work.

I thought i'd be mainly focused on performance mods which i did do first but when i went to local car meets my car looked like a turd lmao. I had to lower it and buy shiny rims...
