Im jelly....

Back in mid to late teens i thought coupes were ugly. But over time they have really grown on me. At some point i would like to pick up a factory manual coupe.

My first mustang was a 1985 gt. But it had the svo sail panels and the svo spats ( i think " spats is the correct name for them. It was those mini ground effects just infront of the rear wheels.) Svo steering wheel and 140 mph speedo. I wish i still had that one.

Sorry dont mean to mess up your thread with my stuff. So if it bugs you just let me know and ill take it down.

Why would it bug me? Thats nice looking. I am a coupe man for sure. I had a 93 calypso coupe that was a no option car. Everything manual except it was an auto. I swapped it to 5 spd and sold it shortly after. It was an a/c delete to and no cruise. Im saving up to try and convince the current owner ti sell it to me. Doubtful Ill ever see it again.

No way! Cheese graters on a lx? Just kidding man, I hear people all the time hate on the gt tail lights, but I think they look good on black and red cars. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has those kinds of days working on cars. Some days everything goes smooth and quick and then you get days when you just want to shoot the car up.

Im not a fan of cheese graters but i will agree that they look best on red and black cars.

I'm a big fan of them. My renegade car had them as well, but they were not put back on by the new owner after the fresh paintjob.

Alright, buddy, I see you've been on the site, but still no update. You're letting us all down here.

I'm sure life or work has you busy, but I thought I'd bust your chops and get this thread back on page 1.

Sent from my bathroom.

Lol, believe it or not, an update is brewing, progress was made and pictures were taken. Might not be much, but its progress none the less.

Hey nx - sorry to hear about your sister bro. Recently had some crap thrown at me as well. My wife (35) was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 3 years ago and about a month ago had a diabetic seizure throwing her into Diabetic ketoacidosis. DK occurs when the body cannot use sugar (glucose) as a fuel source because there is no insulin or not enough insulin. Fat is used for fuel instead. I guess the fat builds up and puts your body into a shock state and very often leads to a quick death. So needless to say she spent several weeks in the hospital as they regulated her blood and got her back into a health acceptable to go back to everyday life. She has worked in day care for the past 16 years taking care of infants and she loves it but it does not pay much better then working as a security guard at target. That's ok it never mattered to her or me because she likes working with the children and I have always made enough in construction to live happy middle class lives. We have a 3 br ranch with a nice yard and I have my tiny garage and my car to work on - its enough for us we don't need anything more then that. Back to the point - so working at this day care for half her life has always provided benefits for her and me and although expensive we always thought it was worth it being covered if something like this happens. Well guess what came in the mail last week - the remaining balance due of what the insurance company won't pay - $55,978 - can you ****ing believe that? 55k. I literally passed out and smashed my huge head on the kitchen counter ( the counter was hurt more then me. But if it wasn't I got ins right? Pft) It's just a unreal dagger into the back - we just don't have this sort of money that's more then she makes in a year. Now god forbid she gets sick and needs treatment again, what in the hell would we do them? This countries health care problems is out of control, this is something that needs to be fixed right away its absolutely crushing peoples lives. Forget about getting the mustang painted this spring there's no way I can afford that now. I had 2k saved in a envelope just for the paint that I had been saving for a year. Every week I would come home and throw a $20 bill in the envelope and I scrapped and scrapped to get it just waiting to make my car look nice again. Anyways I handed the envelope to her the other day and told her to use it for what needs to be done. She was happy I could see a huge relief lifted off her shoulders and that's what love is about I would do anything for her but that one Hurt it really did. I started a new envelope today and its for the crazy medical bill not my car but I know that karma will pay me back and some how some way the car will get painted some day. Hang in there with your sister bro - loved ones and family are all we have and I know it might not seem like it but somewhere in there in her heart or in the back of her mind she knows your there for her and love her.

Thanks man that means a lot. I went last night to see her. Its hard, but I want to be there for her like she has always been for me.
As for that bill, you need to know that as long as you pay something each month, they usually wont come after you. And you need to find out if the hospital receives state or federal monies and if they do, a lot of times they will write off bills like yours if it creates a hardship. Also, write that off on your taxes on the lo.g form. Good luck, sounds like your wife is most important to you.

Thanks nx - yeah I know all the tricks about bills but paying for a hospital visit like a car loan really sucks. I will check into the hardship idea you had thanks for that. The race car looks like its going to be a fun project keep up the good work

Ok, so an update is in order. My intentions this weekend were to work a ton on my GT40 project and get the engine ready to come off the stand and start getting the clutch, flywheel, etc on it and get it ready to install. Well, as plans usually go, lots of stuff jumped up to interfere with my goals. First, I got up on Friday and realized we had about 1" of ice on our walkway, driveway(uphill slope), grass, etc. Then, my wife turned on the TV and we saw that my daughter's school was closed(it NEVER closes). Well, now the problem. I was going to eat breakfast with my daughter and then head off to work for half a day, then go to my shop, then to the hardware store, then home. Now all that had changed in just a few degrees of temperature had changed a rainstorm into a freezing rainstorm. I now had my daughter for the day, and since I get her half time, any extra time is something I hold precious and want to spend it with her. Picked up the phone, called work and said, Uhm, not gonna make it in. I don't believe that any job out there in the states is worth dying for on the trip in to work. Turns out the roads weren't that bad, but more on that later in the story.
So I wait till my little one rolls out of bed, we eat breakfast together and I sit and contemplate the plans for the day. I know I need to go get wood for a bar I wanted to build in the basement and I know I wanted to get some some work time in on my engine as well. I mulled over the different possibilities while sipping a cold coke(that's my answer to the morning coffee), trying to weigh out the options and still include some daddy-daughter time.
I decided I would venture out on my own to purchase the 2X4's I would need for the framing of my bar. I got in the truck, after spending half an hour spreading salt for a walk path up the hill to my truck sitting on the street, only to find it frozen into a cube of ice. Fortunately for me, the freezing rain had changed to just plain old rain and some of the ice was melting away on my truck. I started it up, turned on the defrosters and walked(or skated) back into my house. I gave it a few minutes and then headed out to peel some of the ice off and drive up to the hardware store. We just got a Menards less than a mile from my house, and if you've never been to a Menard's, well, you're missing out. I drove up, picked up the 12 2X4's I had calculated I would need for my project and rolled them out to my truck and stacked them in the back. I drove home, got the truck down the hill and backed up to the garage without slipping. I just wasn't satisified with the positioning of the truck, so I rolled forward and put it in reverse to straighten it out, bad decision. I was stuck. wheels spinning, truck not moving. Crap. I rocked it back and forth, finally got it most of the way up the hill and then decided it was just frickin good enough(to quote Todd on Gold Rush). I unloaded my lumber and started down the stairs with my wife's help and guidance. Why do woman always think they need to micromanage what we are doing. If I wasn't there, she'd have no idea where to get a 2X4 or have the need for them. Anyway, we got them all downstairs and piled in the basement. I closed the garage door and went inside to spend some spongebob time with my daughter. I love that show, we crack up watching it together and I do a pretty good spongebob and starfish imitation.
I got my daughter motivated, dressed and bundled up, and we opened the garage door to go out to the truck. Remember earlier when I said the ice was all over my driveway and it was raining, and things were melting and slick? Remember? Well, much to my suprise, my truck was now at the end of the driveway, slid about 6 feet down the inlcine. Great. So I load the daughter up in her booster seat, put my finish nailer gun in the floorboards, and spun and slid up the driveway and out onto the street. We went up, rented a stud nailer, bought some finish nails to go into my gun, a few other nicknacks, no you can't have a candy bar, and out the door we went. Daughter was well behaved, it was a good time. Memory was made for her that day.
So I came home and started on my bar, more on that later. Fast forward to Saturday. I went to the shop and got started. I was waiting on my friend Dave to come over and help me with a car I've been working on for a couple years(its mine) to get it ready to sell. I also had been fiddling with the oil furnace getting it working properly. I finally can say that it works and hasn't given me a problem so far(vigorously knocking on wood). The other project is an 89 GT, it has a 12 point cage in it, through the floor subframe connectors, battle boxes, and fresh paint. It's a slick looking car, but the interior was a disaster. I took everything out, including the wiring, as it had all been done improperly and needed removed to be assembled and installed properly.
I'll add to this post in a bit. Have to get to work....

So after getting to the shop, I started on my engine and spent a few minutes removing some of the excess parts I didn't need anymore. I took off the exhaust manifolds, the front accessory brackets, the coil packs, spark plug wires, and upper intake and throttle body. Here's how it looked

I then got the carpet out of the box that I waited two weeks to receive. We unrolled it and laid it in the car, but it hung out the doors, went to the back cargo area and didn't fit under the dash. Disgusted, I pulled it back out and rolled it up. It sucked. At least Dave and I were able to get the dash into the car and I got the steering column tightened up too. Dash looks good in the car tho. I posted pics of it in the last post.
I got home and Dave and I finished my bar up just in time for the first guests to my party to arrive. It sucked I didn't get to finish any of my car projects, but man I was sure glad to get that bar done in my basement.
I didn't get to work on it on Sunday, ended up going for oil with my friend James. I heat my shop with waste oil and got an opportunity to get about 175 gallons of oil from a trans shop in Cincinnati. So it was a great time for my friend and I to take a long drive to return some barrels and pick up a few more. By the time we got back, got them pumped out, and the truck empty, it was time to go home. Monday was a day to visit my sister, take the empty drums back and spend some time reflecting and enjoying my wife's company.
Tonight, tho, was a different story. I found out from the company I bought my carpet from that they send them out with a bunch of extra carpet and assured me it would work and fit nicely after I trimmed it. So I unfolded it and let it sit spread out till I can get to it Thurs or Friday. Then I set my sites on my engine project. I started by taking the oil cooler off, I just used an adjustable wrench and removed the bolt that holds it on after I removed the hose clamp from the water pump end of the hose.

Then I removed the fitting in the block, as there are no threads for an oil filter to spin onto.

This was removed with a 32mm socket. It just came out with no hassle or struggle. Next, I removed the oil pressure switch.

Can you burn any type of oil you want in your furnace such has motor oil, trans fluid ect ect....?

Yes, any type oil. Only issue is cooking oil. I dont keep my shop warm enough for it to stay liquid.
