Even if you can just recommend some good junk yards near you I can call around and ask. I'm finding it REALLY hard to believe that his distro said there aren't any in the country "unless they are hoarding them". I'm kinda iffy about Craigslist - I don't trust that I'm not going to get another rear with stripped gears.

Its pretty uncommon for the 2.3s to grenade their rears, and you can often pick them up for around $150. I went to 2 junkyards today and didn't see any foxes (which is very unusual!)

I'm still looking though, haven't forgotten about you.

EDIT: Found one around here out of a 5spd car. It ought to have 3.45 gears in it. May be a little slower accelleration but should see better highway economy. Speedo would be off until you get the correct speed sensor gear but otherwise you'd be good to go. I've been without speedo and tach since december and haven't had a problem thus far, not sure how much it'd bother you.

Apparently my best friends ex-boyfriend said that it might not have "grenaded" the gears and that they may have just shifted creating too much space - thus making the car super loud. I haven't had the rear lock up on me at all, so should I just see if I can find somebody to re-shim the rear? Even if it isn't my uncle lol

Ooh and no spedo and tach would drive me absolutely bat **** crazy lol I'm OCD about checking all gauges and stuff in my car, esp in some towns in my state - if you're 2-3MPH over they'll nail you with a major ticket.

Usually costs more than the 7.5" rear is worth...7.5" rears usually get dumped in the scrap heap. But since you don't seem to have any plans for going fast and building it to race it, should be perfect for you. If someone could find you the correct speedometer gear (or if we can figure out which one you'd need, think the only cost maybe $15 and you can do the labor on that one)

Up to you. I'll keep looking for something with 3.73s in the meantime. How many miles are on your car btw?

And I've been known to hit triple digits on a regular basis. Cops usually leave me alone if I'm only doing like 15-20 over, depending on traffic conditions lol. But usually around here if you behave yourself they'll leave you alone, very lucky for me.

Found an 8.8" with 3.73s...no modifications would be needed other than maybe swapping the brake lines. Be a little extra weight for the car to lug around but shouldn't be too bad.

Foxes have been harder to find in the salvage yards up here too... Everyone must be making, scraping em,dragging them, making oval class cars or still driving them... My uncle used to go through foxes a lot when they were racing mini stocks.. He would get them cheap as hell to like for no more than 400 bucks and they had a cleaner notchback I begged them not to strip but they did anyways :(

They used to be a dime a dozen around here last year. What the ****. This is trifling, I'll be a bit upset if I can't get my hands on parts. My remote supplier said he'd hook me up with a free 7.5 if not for the shipping, he's in Missouri. He usually just scraps them.

Missmeliss, do you intend to build the car up and make it fast, ever?

It would be awesome if I could, but it wouldn't be until I finish college and get a big girl job haha so like minimum 2-3 years. It's very far down on my list of priorities haha. I've found like 2-3 8.8 rears on CL but they still don't have the right gear ratio. I would be OK with switching out the spedo sensor so long as somebody tells me how to do it lol -or maybe I could get my uncle to... maybe... lol

My craigslist has a 3.73 8.8" rear for $150. I'd be willing to pick it up and throw it in my storage unit if you're interested and he still has it.

And the speed sensor is very easy. One bolt on the side of the trans and it pulls right out, change the gear and put it back in. In which case I'll talk to my guy about the 3.45 7.5" and see about a price.

And hey, I'm a college student (or I was until recently...big boy trouble, bills, rent...but still putting money aside to go back lol) and Matt Culpepper, who owns Bolt-On, a 2.3 that runs 9-second quarter miles, built his car while in college as well. Just don't expect much of a social life outside of the 2.3 community (we're a pretty tight knit group for it though lol)

Fox bodies and parts are abundant here in Missouri.

Let me see if I can get somebody to do an 8.8 "transfer" onto my car. My uncle is saying that he doesn't think the drive train and breaks and everything will bolt up. idk what the hell to do. I'm getting so frustrated lol. Thank you so much arummel - you've been a great help! I wish I had a more willing mechanic but he's paranoid that I'm going to get stuck with a rear I can't use and a car he can't get off his lift at work. *ponders just opening her own dang garage...*

arummel- is that 8.8 with 3.73 out of another 4cyl Mustang? Friends ex-boyfriend is being strangely nice to me and helping out lol - he says he's pretty sure that is the only way that things will line up. Did you say something about I would have to change the brake lines too? *really wish this site had a chat feature haha*

Sorry to be a pain in the ass lol but you said you had somebody with a 7.5" with 3.43 gears that would just need the sensor right? My best friends ex, and my friend who is a Ford Master Tech seem to think that that would be the easiest to replace it with. Any way you could get a price on that for me?
