Okay so my ses light has been on for a couple days now but I've been to lazy to plug my reader in and clear it. I have an o2 censor that likes to act up every once in awhile so I'm used to it popping on every couple months or so. But just now it started flashing. So I pulled over and it said cylinder 3 misfire. What's the best way to determine what the issue is? Take a coil of one plug and switch? Of course it would be on the intake side and not the other.

okay c.o.p. is fine and so is plug. Didn't even know they were brand new, previous owner replaced the plugs and cops because he was getting same message I am. Any other ideas as to what's going on if he and I are both getting the same error code. I bought the car about six months ago and he changed them about two weeks before I bought the car.

Maybe a bad injector? Check the fuel trim if your able. Did you check the gap in the plug? He may have just threw them in there without gapping them.

I did not check the gap...but we've been friends for like 13 years and between the two of us we've probably had like 10 mustangs(however this being both his and I's first four valve). So I trust his ability to change a set of plugs...I'll try and check the injector. Maybe I'll throw some injector cleaner in the tank just for shits and giggles. The chassis has 128k on it but ford put in a brand new engine right at 60k for warranty issues. so that means the engine has just over 60k. Is there any major services at 60k on these four valves?

Is there any drivability issues? If not, you could also check the wiring/plugs at the #3 coil and injector, if you haven't already. Have you used that injector cleaner yet?
yeah it hates 5th gear going any slower than 75mph, I also have a stutter going through gears. And recently I have a back fire at idle...hard to tell what bank it's coming from due to the x-pipe...and no I didn't even leave the house today so no cleaner yet. oh and yes the wiring and everything around chamber three looked good

okay guys so it's not the injector...I'm just going to change the cops and plugs all over again just to make sure everything is good...Suggestions?
I've had issues with MSD and Mallory parts in the past. So my question is, is there anybody out there running MSD cops? Should I just bite the bullet and go with genuine ford cops? and plugs...what do these N/A 4v's like?

I had a misfire in cylinder 3 so, I put the #3 coil in the #5 spot and put the #5 in the #3 spot. Of course I still had the studder/hesitantion at half throttle and WOT. So, I forced the engine light to turn on again by starting at around 30mph in 5th and WOT. The light began flashing after about 20 seconds or so.

Sure enough, cylinder #5 now had a misfire. Problem solved. I bought a new Motorcraft cop and installed it in the #5 spot. After that, my car was back to normal.

Buy a new Motorcraft cop and install it in cylinder 3. Check the spark plug condition too. There's no need to change them all right now. If you ever decide to change them all use Motorcraft. Same for the spark plugs.

So got up this morning decided before I go down to the Ford dealer I would switch a couple of the cops around just to make sure there isn't more than one acting up. So I make it to the dealer with out one issue. I put the car in 5th at 30mph and gunned it...nothing but clutch chatter. Put the car on cruise control at 65mph in 5th(I could never do that before)...no problem....could not get the light to trigger at all. Plugged in my scanner and no codes...wth?

That's weird. Maybe the coil problem comes and goes?

replaced the one coil I knew had the problem yesterday. And holy crap....I've been running on 7 cylinders this entire time I've owned the car. Every problem I've ever had is now gone. The stutter off the line, the stutter in 5th gear, the rpm jumping...all gone the car runs like a champ now
