Damn this thread blew up. Okay glad to hear my cars not the only one riding like ass. Also glad to hear someone else has the problem with not being able to accelerate over bumps. I guess feeling like the spring is going to blow through the perch on every bump is normal for these cars. Just seemed like something wasn't right to me. Maybe I've been driving in too many newer cars lately.

you should def look at your bumpstop. i amost bet you are bottoming out on that. trim it down and the difference is awesome! trust me dude.

I don't know, with Eibach springs and an otherwise stock suspension mine feels like it floats down the road, not quite as nice as air ride but better than just about every newer car I've driven.(A bumpstop came with the springs originally I would assume, I have the OEM bumpstop in a baggie with the old springs from the previous owner)

Edit: As for driving habits I also tend to just keep on the gas pedal over railroad tracks and I use-to do speed bumps 25-30mph where allowed until I started dragging exhaust on them now I've laid off to 10mph or so steady on the throttle if it's a tall bump otherwise I just keep going at least 20 through town over them

there's a bumpstop right above the rear dif that alot of lowered guys bottom out on. it def causes harsh rebound. i completely removed mine...you could trim it down or buy another shorter one also.

Suspension mods in sig.

Only time I feel a rough ride is when I'm on a rocky road or there's a bunch of small pot holes around. Other than that my car rides smooth.

Although as you said riding in newer cars & hoping back in your stang could be the reason too lol. I'm still amazed well the s197 rides even with SRA.

Can you post pictures of said bumpstop? How far can you trim it before you make contact elsewhere?

I have Ebaich drag springs with Tokico D adjustibles. After a little adjusting I can put my 3 month old son in the back and drive him around without rattleing his brains out. I will say it doesnt ride like a caddy but it rides smooth on these louisiana roads. I love my setup but I am looking into getting a Team Z tubular K here soon so I dot know how that will change my ride.

You thought H&R SS springs were a quality ride? No offense, but I'd slap each and every person that told you that. I've never had a harsher ride than I do with my SS springs and stock struts... in any car.
Your problem is you didn't match the shock/strut rates to the spring rates. I'm running SS springs and Tokiko blues and it's comparible to stock, though slightly firmer. Mine would ride better if I was running Bilsteins, but the ride is good to fair for a lot less dough.

Doing the job right always yeilds better results than half assed.

I never said it was a problem... you get what you pay for. I'd rather not waste my time with the shitty design anyway and save my money for a decent set of coilovers for the front. This whole design is half-assed, and the geometry forces the need to use a higher spring rate. Think of it this way...

The spring rate can be converted into the rate at the wheel by use of the motion ratio. When you measure the spring rate at the wheel, otherwise known as the wheel rate, a stock 79-04 suspension, has a wheel rate of about 25% of the spring rate. This is caused by the placement of the spring so far inward of the wheel. So a spring rate of 400 lb/in provides a wheel rate of 100 lb/in. In contrast a coilover, by placing the spring in line with the strut as close to the wheel as possible, provides a wheel rate of approximately 90% of the spring rate. Thus, a coilover spring rate of 200 lb/in (half of that used in the stock suspension example) provides a wheel rate of 180 lb/in, nearly double that of the twice as stiff spring.

These cars require a stiff spring to sit low and handle well to acquire an adequate wheel rate, causing a harsher ride. I'm not denying that stock struts may be a culprit to my stiff feeling, but the fact is that they are a 750 lb/in spring (in front) which provides an approximate 187.5 lb/in wheel rate; which is much lower than can be achieved by a coilover with a spring rate of 250 lb/in (or a macpherson strut like ones used on many other make and model cars back then.)

The design sucks in terms of performance and comfort. Period.

Try out some bilsteins...

Or throw in an IRS. Honestly, with the IRS I put in my Mach, even with all the bushings being delrin, the thing rides like a dream in my opinion. It's no cadillac or Grand Marquis, but it's a pretty comfortable ride and can corner like a bad bitch.
I too have an 03 cobra IRS with all the delrin full tilt boogie bushings and bilstein coilovers and its worlds better than a solid axle and does corner really good. My only complaint is that I should have done it sooner before spending all the money on a solid axle...

I read your original post and jumped to the bottom. If I'm repeating someone elses response the +1 to you.

Do you understand spring rates? If you go from a 450/210 spring rate to a 650/250 spring rate how do you not expect the ride to be stiffer and harder? My friends often complain about my stock springs yet you made yours stiffer. I'm having difficult understanding why you modded your springs.

If you build it to be a race car it will ride like a race car.

All I'm saying is I was told the H&R's were close to a stock ride. Obviously I was told wrong or the car from the factory rode like a rickshaw. Maybe New Jersey roads are just that much worse then half the country I don't know. I just haven't ever been in a car that rattles your brain as much as this, especially with just minor suspension mods. I should have listened to this guy who told me when I first got my car to get frpp b springs and cut them if you want it lower or it will be too bumpy.
