I'm considering going from 18's to 20's, but want to know if anyone noticed a performance decrease. I don't race my car, just drive it on the street.

How do you like your 20's?

Iv got 20's. But they just came in so I will be putting them on tomorrow. Ill let u know how it goes, but from what iv read, it isn't a big noticeable change.

Cool definitely let me know. And put up some pics while you're at it :D

i dont have 20 inch wheels. they look good as long as you get the proper offset and tire size. the only thing i really hate about them is that they make the brake rotors look small.

I love my 20's I think they look perfect on our cars with the right size tire and I didn't notice a decrease in performance I actually think there lighter than my factory wheels/tires, never put um on a scale but can tell the difference wen I pick them up

I agree. Mine r significantly lighter than my factory wheels

I'm have 19s now and need to upsize because I need more rubber at the rear. I think I'm going to stay with the 19's just 10" in back. I primarily decided to stay with the 19s becasue 20" tires are about $100 more each. Don't expect I'd see that big of a difference to justify the ongoing expense. My CS wheels might be available if you're interested.

good 19" tires are ridiculously expensive. if traction is what you are really after a set of 18x10 with good drag radials is the best option other than 15 inch race stars or welds.

I personally think anything less than 19" on these cars looks horrible. The right set of 20s look perfect in my opinion.

I have 20's and don't notice any performance difference from my 19" Brembos but I only had those on a week before I ditched them.

Mine is a DD so I don't think it matters. If I was at the strip all the time it'd be a different story.

Even if they are lighter than the stock wheels, you are still increasing the rotational inertia of your wheels by increasing the distribution of weight that's further from the axis of rotation.

In short, you're still reducing the amount of torque that's being transferred to the ground even if the wheels weigh less in total.

Someone who gets it...

Anything less than 19"s looks awful on these cars?

Really?

Really?

I give you 18's... specifically 18x11's up front, 18x12s out back, 315's up front, 315's out back.

Stock 18x8.5 Bullitts on my car. Looks amazing. My opinion is that anything over 19's looks awful on these cars... but of course, that is MY opinion! :p

I'm with you. I love the look of 18s/19s on the S197s. It just screams roadracing to me and is so aggressive. Sure the 20s look good when its slammed, but as mentioned above they really are more for appearance than anything else.

I was going to do 18s, but decided on 19s just to have a little show appeal. I think 19s are the way to go.

All of these comments on 19s vs 20s makes me wonder....how many of you actually THINK you can see a car rolling down the road and just KNOW that their 19s or 20s without being close enough to read the sidewall? You're talking 1 inch spread out over the circumference of the entire wheel.

mine has factory 19s on it...I just ordered my 20s yesterday. they should be in by next Friday. I know I'll lose some performance as stated above. but im not racing my car other than the occasional trip to the strip... so it isn't a huge concern for me.

wouldnt that depend on the total height of the tire? if you run an 18" with a tire thats say 26.5" tall vs. a 20" with a tire thats 26.5" tall seems that the only performance issue would be feeling more bumps and ****. especially if you can find a lightweight wheel.

Yes and no, the 20" will still have more weight further from the wheel hub even though the tires are at the same distance from the hub which means more inertia which means slower acceleration and less braking capability as well as more strain on the whole braking system (pad wear).

How noticeable is it? For a DD, probably not much at all. For any type of racing, it is VERY noticeable. Drag racing it shows up in your ET's and autocross it will show up in your times as well as in your consumables and on a roadcourse it will definitely be noticeable in the consumables!

As for being able to tell by looking at the cars going down the road. I'll be the first to admit that there are some 20's that look like smaller diameter wheels and that I have been "fooled" in the past, but for the most part I can tell pretty quickly who is running larger than 18" wheels as there simply isn't a whole lot of sidewall. If 19" wheels weren't so expensive themselves, weren't so much heavier and had cheaper tires than 18's I'd probably go with them over 18's for a DD but as others have pointed out. 18's are just cheaper all around! :)
