I'm considering going from 18's to 20's, but want to know if anyone noticed a performance decrease. I don't race my car, just drive it on the street.
How do you like your 20's?

good 19" tires are ridiculously expensive. if traction is what you are really after a set of 18x10 with good drag radials is the best option other than 15 inch race stars or welds.I'm have 19s now and need to upsize because I need more rubber at the rear. I think I'm going to stay with the 19's just 10" in back. I primarily decided to stay with the 19s becasue 20" tires are about $100 more each. Don't expect I'd see that big of a difference to justify the ongoing expense. My CS wheels might be available if you're interested.
Even if they are lighter than the stock wheels, you are still increasing the rotational inertia of your wheels by increasing the distribution of weight that's further from the axis of rotation.I love my 20's I think they look perfect on our cars with the right size tire and I didn't notice a decrease in performance I actually think there lighter than my factory wheels/tires, never put um on a scale but can tell the difference wen I pick them up
Someone who gets it...Even if they are lighter than the stock wheels, you are still increasing the rotational inertia of your wheels by increasing the distribution of weight that's further from the axis of rotation.
In short, you're still reducing the amount of torque that's being transferred to the ground even if the wheels weigh less in total.

Anything less than 19"s looks awful on these cars?
Really?
Really?

I give you 18's... specifically 18x11's up front, 18x12s out back, 315's up front, 315's out back.

Stock 18x8.5 Bullitts on my car. Looks amazing. My opinion is that anything over 19's looks awful on these cars... but of course, that is MY opinion! :P[/quote]
I'm with you. I love the look of 18s/19s on the S197s. It just screams roadracing to me and is so aggressive. Sure the 20s look good when its slammed, but as mentioned above they really are more for appearance than anything else.
I was going to do 18s, but decided on 19s just to have a little show appeal. I think 19s are the way to go.
wouldnt that depend on the total height of the tire? if you run an 18" with a tire thats say 26.5" tall vs. a 20" with a tire thats 26.5" tall seems that the only performance issue would be feeling more bumps and ****. especially if you can find a lightweight wheel.Even if they are lighter than the stock wheels, you are still increasing the rotational inertia of your wheels by increasing the distribution of weight that's further from the axis of rotation.

Yes and no, the 20" will still have more weight further from the wheel hub even though the tires are at the same distance from the hub which means more inertia which means slower acceleration and less braking capability as well as more strain on the whole braking system (pad wear).wouldnt that depend on the total height of the tire? if you run an 18" with a tire thats say 26.5" tall vs. a 20" with a tire thats 26.5" tall seems that the only performance issue would be feeling more bumps and ****. especially if you can find a lightweight wheel.
