So I'm driving down the 8 and it feels like my spark's cutting out. I got off on my exit and it died right there. Called AAA and got it back home.

Having heard about MSD stuff, I changed the coil back to OEM and it fired right up.

Does anybody on here use MSD stuff? What do you think of it?

My blaster coil lasted less than 5000 miles.

Is there anything that might have caused it to burn out prematurely?

If there could be something wrong with my setup, I'm all for accepting that instead of blaming MSD but I have heard stuff from people over the years and at about $50, I'm thinking this really sucks.

Does anybody know of any better coils out there for '94GTs?

Off topic, 69fastback, where is your box located?
Ummmmmm, I don't feel like we know each other that well :gay

Lol :D

But I keep my MSD Digital 6 under my dash, on the passenger side, mounted to the heater core box. It's a real pain in the ass to change the timing retard, but I hate having that stuff where it can be seen.

From my personal experience MSD sucks. My friend bought a brand new dizzy and 6al. The 6al broke while we were tuning and the magnetic pickup shortly there after. This all happened within 5 miles. Also I've tested the resistance and power of a street fire coil on a friends voltmeter. The resistance was higher and out was less than a 20 year old OEM coil. I've also heard rumors that stock cars run up to three separate msd ignitions so they can switch during a race when one fails. From my experience I'll steer clear if msd

MSD boxes really should be mounted on the vibration pads away from heat. Ive never had an issue on the 4-5 cars ive wired with them inside the car, but the one I put in the engine bay on a road course/ track day toy, it had issues. I can only assume from heat.

That there is the reason for my thread and my suspicions. I hear that a lot more than I hear good things.

BUT, I have also heard good things like what somebody on here said. Just not as often.

I have a 6A that I havn't installed yet. I was already planning to put it where the passenger side airbag was. That cost 250 and if it burns out, I'm gonna curse MSD to hell and back.:swordfight:

Does anybody know if the 6A will work with the stock coil?

I always hear hit or miss stuff with MSD. I have a MSD blaster coil & distributor cap/rotor and I haven't had any issues up to date (knock on wood). But I have heard my share of bad news about their coils from time to time.

Well its also more common for people to complain when something breaks than when it works fine.
Exactly. I've had all kinds of MSD stuff, and have never had a single issue. The boxes I've seen have problems were typically because of people crappy wiring. Use a good ground, and good wire with no splices, and make sure you get a good clean power source, and it'll be fine. Most issues are used created.
