yeah but it will be a rare cobra with an ass load of miles.
I agree, but I look at it like this, what is a grand national with a ton of miles worth, and what is a v6 buick regal with a ton of miles worth?
Even in mustangs what is a 2002 Cobra worth even with a ton of miles and what is a 4 cyl 2002 worth?
I guess if it is just transportation the v6 would fit the bill, but it will always be a v6 mustang.

One of the reasons for wanting the mustang is simple, I like how it looks. I like both the 4th & 5th gen looks. SURE, I would love a late 60s one or a mach 1, but nice ones are just too much. Same with late 60s Camaro(probably 1st choice). Maybe someday.

Now I'm leaning back towards the cobra, but finding a low mileage one seems quite a bit more money. All the ones I'm seeing around 30k miles or so, are over 20 grand, more like 22-23 grand.

No "real" reason. I just wouldn't want to put a **** ton of miles on one of the most sought after/celebrated/iconic Mustangs. I will probably buy one in the next 4 or so years because I like them a lot and unlike some, the New Edge Mustangs are pretty appealing to me.

... tough choice lol, and im serious because i understand both delemas.
i would say cobra personally but i am extremely partial to the edge body, you couldnt give me a retro style car.
that being said though the new v6 is phenomenal on gas and for a person that is would be so inclined to start modifing one they actually are pretty stout performers for what they are. i personally watched a full bolt on one go bumper to bumper with a full bolt on n/a cobra and win out... thats pretty damn quick
and it would still get better mpg.

Either way you cut it, the V6 will never be a V8.

Why not find a nice GT in your area and run it? I can't imagine that it would cost the same as a Cobra; But you've got to ask yourself, do you want performance?

Will you be banging your head on the steering wheel going "I want a V8!"
If you're just going to get a V6 and throw bolt ons all over it, why not just get the cobra or find a GT that already has the power of a V8 and the gas mileage really isn't all that bad.

Plus if you want to ever trade in or sell the V6 then it's not going to be worth hardly anything in comparison to a V8.

For example V6 mustangs from 2000-2004 are worth $5-6k right now, most GTs are going for $10,000-$15,000 however Cobras are much more rare here(Can't say I've happened across one for sale but I haven't been looking either)

In the end it comes down to, What do you want? Performance or mileage!

IMHO V8 with a manual transmission is the only way to go in a Mustang :baller:

::EDIT::
I'm sorry I lied, I have seen a mustang with a cobra on the front for sale, it just said shelby on the back and was sitting in a dealer lot for $80,000 :whackylol:

well parts will definitly be cheaper for the edge body since its so old now.
so repairs and maintnance will be easier.
.... i dont know what the hell buddy is talkin about 99-04 gt cars sellin for 10-15k lol
people in maryland must love them some mustang hahaha:llama because i bought mine for 13 back in 2006.
to get over 10k out of a edge body gt it either has to be a badass car or in perfect low mile condition.
dont ever by a car with the dreams of getting your money back or "hopes" that it will hold value.

I would buy the cobra because in a few years the convertible will just be another v-6 mustang.
The cobra will still be a rare badass and likely not lose much if any value.
The v-6 will be a cheap throw away, look at what 2003-2004 v-6 convertibles are going for.

I think it a very valid comparison. After a lot of research and a lot of great input from people here and some other forums, I'm 99.99999% sure I'll get a terminator. But like I've said, I know what going fast is like, but it's not the only factor. A new v6 is fast. I drove one for a month and it was great. Not perfect and not crazy fast. But price is a big factor. Some say just as fast as older v8's & cobras. If all I wanted was a 400ish hp & torque car, there are many options. But when I add up all the "pros & cons", the terminator is at the top. NOW, I MIGHT change my mind after having one, but we will see. I honestly might think it's too much power for a daily driver in the city. I don't think that will be the case, but I don't know.

I think casper hit it on the head.

With the V6, you are also getting a platform that wasn't designed in 1978.

The 5.0 is way too much. More than around 10 grand over a lower mileage cobra. I still haven't heard any good explanations as too HOW a terminator is less reliable than a newer car, factoring in price difference and ability to do work yourself. For a fraction of the price difference between a terminator and a newer v6, you can do a lot of engine/tranny/suspension work, IF it even needed it.

I have read from a lot of people there are no inherent reliability issues. Only when it is abused, same as most cars.

Buy a used 2010+ GT conv or save up till ya can.. Mustang and v6 imo should be a no no. Cant wait till next year when they add a 4cyl sigh...

I've been thinking, I should be asking a different question.

Why should I NOT buy a low mileage(15-40k) terminator convertible in great condition for around 20 grand to be my DD??? AND considering a 3.7 v6 would be about the same price. Insurance, resale, and mpg are not factors.

Or to make it simpler, if both had the same mileage & price, why NOT buy the cobra? Is there ANY reason to buy the v6 in this case?:headscratcher:

A new 5.0 is out of the question. Just too expensive. Not worth it to me.:swordfight:

But to me, the no brainer is a V6 for what you're looking for.
Why is the v6 a no brainer? I've been thinking it's the other way around.
