I just ordered some LM1 resonators from AM along with an Exedy Mach 350 clutch kit. Are these things gonna sound raspy and "drony" with the stock H, cats and headers? I have Pypes Violators on now, just not loud enough. My car is a 2002 2V stock engine.

For what it's worth, I had Borla Stingers on my car when I had an offroad H and it didn't sound right.Straight through mufflers like what you got sound so much better with an X pipe. I would put a UPR O/R X pipe next on your budget to maximize those mufflers. It's going to be loud though. You got a really loud "muffler" - and I say that lightly.

I liked the way my car sounded with lm1s and stock H personally. I have a pro chamber now and think that sounds 100x better though. It's all personal preference but I think you'll like it.

I liked the LM1's on my buddy's car with stock H and headers. He added a BBK x pipe and it quickly changed my mind. No tone, deafening volume, and terrible drone. It might scare subarus away until they realize the it's just an incredibly obnoxious exhaust. It screams above 2000 rpm and is reasonably quiet below. I can't remember how it was off the throttle but I want to say not too loud. IDK, not really my style. Sounds like people with a prochamber in front of it like it a lot though. I've read the BBK x sounds like a can of rocks so maybe that was what made his setup sound so shitty.

So stock exhaust system with LM1 in place of the muffler sounded good then the BBK X blew it over the top?
That's exactly how I would put it. The system sounds great with the stock midpipe. It might get pretty damn loud with an offroad midpipe. And I would never go with the BBK x pipe anyway. UPR offers a cheaper, higher quality one for $160 with free shipping from their ebay store.

Sounds good right?

And here's what you can expect with the addition of a BBK x pipe. Yuuuuck haha

To be honest, If I were you I would just return the LM1's, and swap them for some LM2's, stingers, or magnapacks. Hell, I'd even keep the violators. Then I'd pick up a UPR x pipe. That will give you a better sound than a catback alone and probably pick up a few high rpm rwhp. The UPR x is a quality, well-fitted piece that doesn't add a lot of rasp as far as x pipes go. With an x pipe paired with a more effective "muffler" than the LM1, you can get a good amount of volume with some nice tone as well. Here's a good video of the UPR X and the pypes violator (m80s.) There's a pretty good shot at 1:40.
