Alright so I notice, obviously vortech builds boost with rpm, the "safe limit" is like 10psi on a stock shortblock, but to me that's kind of a shitty design for a street car.. you might say **** you buy a pd blower yada yada what ever, my question is if your making 10psi at red line and it takes that Damn ass long to make full boost is it a bad idea to pulley that bitch down some more to say 12 psi at red line, ultimately making more boost that's usable?

I'm not complaining so much as I'm just wondering if it would be worth it/dangerous to exchange rpm redline for boost at lower rpms, for example,10 psi@6k opposed to maybe making12psi at that 6k but just shifting sooner and having that boost build quicker and lower?

That might sound stupid but just a thought, I don't like the whole 3psi at 4k than bam 10 psi at 6k, I want that good boost like around 5k or so lol

I'm waiting to see if I should put on this brand new ATI super dampner/ od pulley too, I don't want to over boost the car so when jts all done being tuned I guess we'll see what it makes I'm expecting 8/9 without od crank but it looks pretty nice and at 400$ I feel like it'll do something.

Set your rev limiter low and shift sooner if you have enough usable rpm. I have 4.10s and am crossing the traps around 6300rpm. If you have a 3.73 or higher gearing and can cross around 6krpm then that would be good. Around 12psi is when you start pushing your luck on the stock motor.

Yea that's kinda what I was thinking, pulley it as if I wanted to make that 12 at 6k than drop the rev limiter a bit and it'll "spool" like its got that extra 2psi but won't ever see it cause it won't spin that high, that crazy sounding?

I got 3.73s

This e trim tho actyally they said you gotta spin harder than an s or t trim cause it was made for a cobra so maybe I just keep it as is and do some 410s ? It's a dd and I drive a lot of highway so idk just a thought

Just boost it to 12psi. You'll be fine. I've been running 14psi for a while now with absolutely no problems. Stock longblock. Sometimes you just gotta do stuff in the real world, cause everybody on the internet just repeats what they read somewhere else. Very little of it is from first-hand experience.

Talk to TonyG on Corral. He ran very low 11's through an S trim at 16-17 psi for years, making just over 500whp, on the stock bottom end.

And you are correct that dropping pulley sizes will help the power output overall. I went from a 3.6"(10psi) to a 3.2"(14psi) and it felt like a different car. Instead of having the "lag" and waiting til about 3500 rpm for it to start pulling good, it pretty much just feels like the power swells from any rpm.

There is no magical number, whether it's HP or PSI. Just get out there and try it! But again, 12 psi is perfectly safe, speaking from EXPERIENCE.

Well on this unit its got a 3.1 pulley and od crank pulley (previous owner car) and everything els stock and he was making 8.5 at 5500 so maybe a 2.9 and the crank pulley would get me 10/12 with my boltons and ****

... my lil Vortech with a 2.80 upper & 10% o/d IW dampner puts out 22 lbs of boost at 6,400 :)

I rev limit her to 6k on the street and let her spool up to 6,700 for the track.

lol I also run a 3rd tune for my teenager - rev limited to 4K, speed limited to 80 mph and traction control locked on

Sounds like your built and.not running an e trim either lol, this head unit isn't capable of such things

I'd love to feel 22 psi

As you stated the E trim was meant for 99/01 Cobras. It needs to be reved to make boost. If he was at 8.5psi at 5500rpm then by 6200rpm it is probably in the 11-12psi range. Mine doesn't hit 8-9psi until 6,000rpm so I'd say you are at a pretty good boost level already.

I dont believe in running centris below 12lbs. I ran my V3SI at 12lbs for 70k miles and had no issues... not one what some would call a safe tune either.

Lol - yeah mine is a fully built MMR 1000 and a YSI trim blower...

But as I mentioned you can rev limit to hold down the total boost. If you get to a 2.90 upper pulley you will likely fight belt slip with a 6 rib too - you may need to upgrade to an 8 rib set up.

Yea for 1200$ I couldn't justify that lol, I just installed it and Ill just suck it up lol
Where did you get your unit from? I've been looking around a little bit. You planning to hit the track soon. I'd be interested to see what you pick up in the quarter. I assume your sig times were n/a?

Some say the stock short block is good to 425rwhp or 10psi whichever comes first. I had mine at 8psi for a long time and didn't have any problems. When I went to 12psi I popped the motor.

If you're inter-cooled, have some extra cash and want to be different add a wastegate and a much smaller pulley then limit wastgate boost to 10psi. That way you can make more boost down low and still rev up to 6000, and not sacrifice even more RPM drop than the factory tranny already does.

Damn some of you guys are crazy, 12-13psi on stock bottom end? I feel like I'm pushing it at 9.5psi and blower cams. Maybe I'll crank it up to 12-13psi a few months before I'm ready to build my motor. Not saying they can't last, but **** I always have the thought of a bomb going off when I step on it lol.

I've had my car for 2 weeks and OP I know exactly where you're coming from, it feels still slow in midrange and between 1-2 and 2-3 before boost really rises. I'm already craving more.

That 1200$ wasn't the cost of my kit it was vortech price on the 8rib conversion lol
I paid 1700 for mine, intercooled, head unit was rebuilt last year too, off corral.

Yea the Sig times were on a shitty track and street tires on import night, if I can find someone to buy these over sized et drags I got ill get the right size and with the boost and some good tires/ stock rear springs back in I hope to see both those times drop pretty good.

What waste gate? Just replaces my current.bov or what? I like that idea, and I already have the od crank I just don't wanna put it on yet ti I see where I'm at around the 6k mark

If I could spin this motor ****ing 6500/7k this headunit would be excellent but until than I'll make due, sure does sound ****ing cool, everyone thinks it's a turbo to the point they are arguing with me for a second insisting it's a turbo ever after they see the belt drive lol. ****ing stupid Baylor kids
