So i was at the strip tonight, with my buddy who has an 03 with: BBK CAI, LT's, x, and flowmasters, and preditor tuned.

My car has mods listed below.

He has 03/04 cobra rims and i have heavy ass american racing rebels. also a 12'' sub and an amp.

We both can not seem to get below a 14.1! tonight we ran together and we had almost identical times! We're putting pretty much the same hp to the ground. his car has 55k and mine has 16k.

What is going on? my car with the previous owner ran a 13.8 with DR's w/o a cai.

I've been driving my car since this past august (i'm 18) and my buddy has had his since new in 2003 (he's 24)... i know my car pretty well and everything... i kno it cant be the driver (well maybe, but we're running the same)

Why are my and his times so slow? How can i get it faster... i've done my fair share of practice. HELP!

weight and tires are killing it. the weight of the wheels alone are killing time. what tires you on? whats your shift points? power shifting? what are the times and mph? (60ft, 330, 1/8,etc)

I have BFG GeForce KDW 2's 295/35/18 and 265/35/18

I launch at about 1.5k but still spin helle, so i let it spin for like .25 sec then let off then floor it again then its usually fine. either that or bog it. I refuse to feather. I dont get them wet cuz they're street tires. i just do a rolling burnout until the tree.

alright traction in 1st, excellent 2nd and 3rd gear... but going into 2nd i always fishtail, but so does almost everyone else with street tires.

heres one slip

r/t=.105
60'= 2.349
330= 6.196
1/8= 9.348
78.33mph
1000'=12.037
1/4=14.317
96.78mph

i always shift b/t 5500 and 5600

and i also refuse to powershift... i cant afford a new tranny on my daily driver... one tiny mistake while powershifting and BOOM
I can shift really really fast anyways so thats not a problem... i am constantly working on shifting at lightnig speeds, even while driving normal... its all about the finess (spell check). My shifting is to the poing where it almost sounds like an auto

60 foot time is killing you. speed is offly low to. prolly weight.

whats the weather/ altitude?

Ive seen people let some air out...but i dont think you can hook up good with out some better tires. That makes such a diff.

Or start taking off the hood, speakers and seats...like the hondas do

ya those tires arent that bad at all. id say driver mod, and work on shifting, you should have higher trap speeds

you simpokly need to leanr how to race your car or............... get the driver mod, i ran a 13.64@81 letting completely out at the 1/8th mile. also whats your altitude?

you may shift fast, but power shifting will out run you. that and weight! with mid pipe and cat back only i was getting 13.9@100-100.7 if you are in a high elevation it will also kill your times.

dude... you're gonna have to feather it to get your times down.

i launched at 3500 and feathered the **** out of the clutch to give me almost perfect traction with street tires and hit a 1.90 60 ft (and I had similar mods to you). There's your 4 tenths of a second right there man... and you'll be well into the 13's.

Thats what I thought with the 60 and the added weight.

Hell I went 14.10 at 98 mph in my 98 GT 5spd with a CAI, Mac H-pipe, American thunder Cayt back, and a set of 275's out back with 17 psi in them.

Your car has more in, just get good conditions and keep trying at it.

Learn the launch. You should be able to launch at a way higher RPM. I have less mods, street tires, and it was my first time at the track and I ran a 14.1 @ 99. ( with a head wind )

And yes, the rolling mass of the rims isn't helpin ya :crazy

You need to work on the 60'. When I was completely stock, and on bald 245/45/17 Eagle ZR45, I ran 2.1 60' all day. I launch at 2600-2800, feather the clutch a bit, and I get about 5-8 ft of spin. My rpms never drop below 2300, which is another critical point. Since our engines aren't cube monsters, they don't produce the low end TQ that you will get out of a larger engine. If you don't want to power shift because of the wear on your tranny then don't (speed shifting will be slower though), but feathering in your clutch for a brief moment isn't gonna hurt you.

I'm in indy, so the elevation is about sea level.

So what you're saying is that i should just feather? would moderate feathering really be alright.

What times cold i expect with DR's?
I've heard of people dropping .5 with DR's instead of streets.

It will take some practice to figure out how much feathering you need. Also remeber you're not just feathering the clutch, but the throttle too. The way I launch is bring my revs to 2600-2800. Then I drop the clutch to about 1/2-3/4 out and push the throttle down about 3/4 at the same time. Then when I feel my tires start to grip, I completely dump the clutch and mash the throttle. It will take some practice because all that takes place in under a second. Also how much feathering you will need depends on how much power you have and the condition of your drivetrain.
