So I have been looking for LTs but the deal that I was going for fell through and I am on a serious FI budget but anything worth doing is worth over doing so I plan on doing all of the supporting mods first then adding my SC So I went searching for LTs again and found these

4 6 Mustang GT Long Tube Headers 2V | eBay

In the one photo posted I noticed some surface rust which I don't Mind taking care of at all. However I did notice the gasket has a break on one side between two of the pipes, is this normal? or even functional? I mean I can weld on a piece for it. I also don't much like the X pipe but the entire set up is a bit of a steal so....Is it worth it?

so..buy it now is 180, shipping looks to be 20-25, so 205 tops doesnt seem that bad. i have no idea what brand they are, but i can tell you now that paint on them wont hold up very well so that will need addressed. something good i've came across for headers/manifolds POR-20

other than that i think the break is normal, its for the oil dipstick tube.

I would say save your money and get a good pair. Firstly the type of material may or may not last as long as a good set of stainless or ceramic coated headers. With doing an installation like long tubes your better off doing it right the first time. Not to mention that it says right in the ad that it shows surface rust. Secondly it doesnt say anywhere what the brand name of these are so fitment might be an issue.

If it was my money I would save it and get something better quality. Check craigslist around your area too, I can get a set of long tubes fairly cheap at a local mustang garage, but i'm located in pennsylvania.

yea I am located in oklahoma and I have been looking for awhile, I contacted the seller and he said he believes the LTs are pacesetter and the x pipe could really be anything. As far as surface rust can't that be ground down back to bare metal, infact can't I just take the paint off altogether, clean them up or at least clean the rust off, use high temp rustolem then top with a coat of high temp paint? I wouldn't mind the work so much as they would go in when I get the time to drop my transmission to change the clutch I suppose I can wait though

Personally I wouldn't go longtubes but that's because I'm lowered on H&R SS springs and I plan on going C/O because I eventually want to go turbo. I don't know for sure so someone correct me if I'm wrong but aren't longtubes geared more for sound anyways? Can't you gain about the same HP/TQ with a good set of shorties?

On those H&Rs how much drop do you get? I would also like to know if shorties give similar performance. I do not plan on turbo though to me I feel like turbo just looks messier so I want to go centri so exhaust for me is just a supporting mod.

you could buy brand new pacesetter LT's and x pipe for a little over 100 more if it were my money id go new just because you don't know forsure what brand they are and as mentioned above if there some knock off brand you will regret it when installing them. Ive heard good things about pacesetter though, definitely need to strip the spray paint off them before install and put a good coat of some high temp paint.

It was a pretty good drop, 2 finger gap all around. Never really measured exactly. No isos all the way around. I'll get a picture up in a few.

EDIT:

This was probably a day or so after the install:

This was before any drop:

actually closer to 200 more tor new the x- pipe is more than I thought I read when I was looking. If there pacesetter its worth it I think and there still in good shape not much rust from what I can see. Go to AM and read the reviews people like them

my gut told me too that they were pacesetters.
FWIW, i had a pair of shorty headers, they were stainless steel and also jet-hot coated. that coating was crap IMO. i was lucky to have 1000mi on the setup and they were already discoloring, pitting and starting to rust. they were ford motorsport headers too, not cheap junk.

So If I can have the money in three days it could be great

longtube headers will give you more HP/TQ over shorty headers but the increase is only around 5 HP LTs are mostly for sound!

with that being said i picked up my LT headers/ x pipe on craigslist for $125 couldn't be happier with how great of a deal it was! BBK x pipe ($179 new) and JBA LT heads ($689 new) id say look around for a deal on craigslist i had to wait 6 months but it was well worth it! :)

My car had a set of these on it:

Ford Pony Mustang GT 4 6L V8 SOHC Long Tube Stainless 1 75" Exhaust Pipe Header | eBay

Say what you want about them being cheap junk all you want but the fitment was top notch. Welds were decent and they didnt leak at all. They did rust on the collectors but the car was daily driven in whatever the weather was. Snow, salt, rain, etc. BUT I never attempted to coat them or anything. Bought them and threw them on WITH the supplied gaskets with copper spray on them. And used the provided studs.

You got a steal on those headers man. Ceramic coated?

Save your money and use it towards your FI project... going from manifolds and OR pipe to LT and offroad pipe will net you less than 10rwhp peak... Its not worth the money. I put down 550rwhp with stock heads and manifolds... I would rather see you with a good intercooler (Ive always liked treadstone since they came out years ago) than a set of LT

BTW It doesnt matter if your running kooks, AR, PC, BBK.... none of them are going to give you over 15rwhp and that is a stretch.

Well put Nitmare. I agree that you should focus more on your FI setup. A nice intercooler will net more HP than some LT's.

N/A guys seem to gain more than F/I with longtubes. It's probably because the scavenging effects they offer are less important with forced induction. I gained nothing with longtubes, neither on the dyno nor on the dragstrip. Even if you buy the headers for cheap, it can still become an expensive project. I bought mine for cheap, then I decided not to skimp on the coating, so I paid a few hundred dollars for Jet Hot's best coating. Then, since the K-member had to be dropped, I thought I might as well get a tubular K and drop some weight. Had to get an alignment afterwards, etc, etc. I think I was past $1200 when everything was done...and I still didn't go faster.

i just pulled my MAC lts off my car last night. 3 years old with roughly 25k miles on them. id be willing to sell if interested.

Depending on the price that could be a good deal.

Now I have ran a set of pacesetters and the biggest problem was the coating sucked. I would do the por-20 or the black velvet they sell. Honestly while they are out I would weld a v-band flange onto the end of the collector and x pipe.
