I tried posting this in the visual section, no luck with any responses, and I know this isn't really a tech question or issue, but thought I'd try posting it here because of the traffic this section gets. Mods, if you feel the need to move this, go ahead, and I apologize

Looking for some opinions here. Im seriously considering selling my car because I want a Shelby GT500. My dilemma is this: the car is in need of a paint job, it's faded pretty good in places like around the door handles and around the headlights. I never worried too much about it because there's no peeling and i keep it washed and waxed, but I've always been more concerned with the drive train, not the exterior. I can have my car painted and dings smoothed by a buddy who runs a custom paint and body shop, for right at $2000. I just don't know if it would be worth it to paint the car for that price, although it's a killer deal, because I don't know that I'd be able to get that money back in a sale. I guess what I'm asking opinions on is this.... If my car is worth "X" right now, will it be worth "X+$2000" after the paint? Thanks for the responses in advance guys

no, the value of your car will probably not go up by more than 500. It will make it easier and faster to sell, but you will not get too much for it.

I have a similar dilemma. But my cars paint is really bad on the passengers side. As is I could probably get 4500 for it, with paint maybe 5k, maybe 5.5k if Im really lucky.

I usually charge around $1500-$2000 to paint a car all over so that's about spot on. Might be able to buff it if there's no peeling and the paint is just faded. Imo if your gonna sell it I wouldn't invest a dime more than I had to. It would increase the value but I don't see it being drastically. If you spend the $2000 for paint then you might only see $500-$1000 out of the $2000.

Nope, let it go as is, knock a few hundred off if you have to. Personally, I'd just color sand that biatch, buff it out with strong polish, and wax it and be done with it. If the clear coat is strong enough, you'll be amazed how good you can restore it.

paint it yourself, Thats what I did, I have never painted anything in my life, I think it cost me 375 for materials and 25 for a paint gun, and mine is electric green. Its no show paint job but I bet that it would take a paint professional to tell that I sprayed it.

like brand? I have to look at the cans, it was a base coat clear coat. I watched a ton of youtube videos first, there is an art to it, and a basic understanding of how to hit the body lines. I asked a ton of questions at the paint shop about mixing and coat times, jacked my car up taped it off and went with it. I have 3 runs in my clear, all which you cant see unless you are laying down looking up, (down on the side skirts). I had some clear run on my cowl hood. but wet sanded it off, painting the cowl was much harder than the car for some reason. I just painted my harley with house of color candy blue, on a silver base, then hit the clear with some hobby store glitter. **** looks wild man, and the glitter hides the 2 bugs in the paint, I dont understand it but bugs flipping love wet paint.

i also did it in a 2 car garage with box fans in the window and work lights. my avatar is the day after I painted it.

I have been doing a lot of research on this too. Im very good at spray painting, but have never used a gun. This summer I'm going attempt painting mine.
Down here there are places where you pay $100 and you get 8 hours in a paint booth, they supply all the lights, air compressor, ladder, and all that stuff. You just need the paint gun and paint.

You can get them runs out. Take a razor blade and cut the back flush. San the **** out of it with 2000 and buff it really good. Yeas it is a art to understand how to spray a car. Different colors react different ways and have to be sprayed a certain way. I love it I painted my car also but it's not my first rodeo. Gbro, your car looks pretty good for what you had to work with. Especially it being your first time.

thanks! and im going to try that with the runs, i never buffed the car after I painted it. Im going to respray it before mustang week this year, I have been putting it off because I want bullitt side scoops and a cobra rear (without the cobra on it) I will most likely spray the mirrors too.

OP If you dont paint it yourself, dont paint it. That is a sweet color and I bet if you did spray it yourself it would stand out. Id plasti dip your wheels white too....I think im going to try that on mine
