Looking for some quick advice, it was a cold morning and i turned on my car, pressed the clutch to put it in reverse and i heard a thump sound as if i broke something and my clutch fell in, and it wont come back up. It has no resistance, Im assuming i broke the clutch cable or something? The clutch is brand new i had it put in less than 4k miles ago. I looked under the car and saw this thing hanging, im not sure if it has to do with the clutch or something else.

Anyone know what it could be?

thanks a hunch!

Thanks thats what im assuming too, there is a mechanic right next to me (I would tow it to my mechanic but i am at school 200 miles away from home). I went to him and he told me he doesnt work on clutch's only easy jobs such as breaks and oil changes...WTF! lol

If it's just the cable, you can actually still drive the car, and even shift gears. You just have to know when to shift, and turn off the engine if you need to stop. I drove 60 miles that way once, from the drag strip. Fortunately, there were only 3 or 4 traffic lights.

How to drive clutchless...

Put car in gear with engine off. Foot on clutch to floor, turn key when light turns green. Accelerate gently, get up to the rpm point you want to shift to the next gear in. Simultaneously let off gas and put gearshift in neutral. While coasting, feather the gas till you're roughly at the RPM you should be for the next gear, and gearshift should easily slide into that gear with no grinding. Repeat as necessary. Remember, keep revs low for upshift, high for downshift.

Replacing a clutch cable is very simple. OEM cable from Ford is $85 (I just bought one a few weeks ago). So you'll be paying about $225 for 15 minutes of labor. If/when you learn how to replace the cable yourself, you'll kick yourself for paying someone that much to do it.

Would have loved to see a video. I couldn't imagine trying to drive the car like that.

It's actually fairly easy. I was in another state when a pressure plate failed and drove about 200 miles home starting it in first and rev matching. I was lucky I had a good starter. Highways weren't bad but towns sucked. Last November the throw out bearing on my Harley disintegrated I road it 35 miles home (only one light) without a clutch.

yeah, my Spec 3+ clutch welded itself to the flywheel that day. Shifting is not so bad. You have to rev match, and it'll go right into gear without the clutch. Stopping/Redlights are the worst part. Luckily it was mostly highway for me that day, so there wasn't much drama. I drove it straight home, and on the next day, I even drove it to the shop without the clutch

definitely a cable. ive heard good stuff about steeda cables. very easy for a guy to do. chage it yourself tho. might be a good time to upgrade to a new quadrant and firewall adjuster?
agreed. the fire wall adjusters make it easy to adjust where the clutch grabs. some people like it to grab when peddle is high, some like it right off the floor

If you can I would just replace the cable your self. It's cheap and easy.

And driving a car without a clutch is pretty easy. I drove home a buddy's f150 like that 50 miles once.

He'll if I'm just cruising around I usually only use the clutch to get going in 1st gear.
