So right now I have a Ford Racing B cam and I have done some MINOR porting work on a set of GT-40 heads... and I am trying to decide if I should pull the B cam and go to a TFS stage 1 or an E cam before I even bother putting it in. And when I say minor, I mean I have smoothed the outside pushrod hump on the intake as much as I can and gasket matched the intake, on the exhaust I have smoothed the sharp downward curve and the left side wall's curve as much as I felt safe as well as attempted to smooth out the roof near the thermactor bumps.

My goal is to run between a 12.0-12.5, of course wanting to be closer to 12 flat, with the GT40s, a ported lower intake, KB 11:1 CR forged pistons, and whatever cam I need to get that quick... any takers on which one is best? And if anyone has one around here (i.e. on the board) cheap?

Definitely a custom grind if you are trying to get the most out of your combination. It will be well worth the money and worth several horsepower more than an off the shelf grind. I'd probably look into another set of heads too or at least flow yours to see if you helped them or hurt them. Backyard porting rarely makes for a good set of heads. More often than not backyard porting kills port flow and horsepower. Probably not what you want to hear but if you don't understand head flow and the port layout for a specific head you aren't going to help it any by hacking away on it.

Find yourself a set of GT40P heads or some used aluminum heads. Either have them professionally ported or just bolt them on with stock ports. Either way they are going to work.

wouldnt be worth it unless you got a custom grind. The TFS stage 1 will be worth a couple more over the B303 most likely, and i doubt you will really notice a difference between the B and E...I have the same setup as you, but i have an auto.

12s are possible with that setup, a 5 speed, good tires, and a GREAT launch...Woody on this site has gone 12s with that combo.

well I got the porting info from Tmoss porting... and he has done some good work on other things like lower intakes. I also got some other Flowbench data from another website... he had what he changed and what he gained from it.

I think I will stick with the B cam, because of 2 things... I dont know where to get a custom cam and because at the time I am sending me heads of to be professionally cleaned and minorly ported because of the fact that I knew I couldn't do a whole lot....

well there is a guy I know who has a ported lower intake, stock GT40 heads, stock cam, stock pistons and ran a 12.8 on slicks in an AOD car. So... I figured with 11:1 CR and the cam alone I should run atleast a 12.5... and with the heads being ported and the intake manifold it should help me run a little under that. (BTW my car is also a 5spd)

how much would a custom cam cost, and how much would it run me?

i think somewhere around 300 or so.....not sure.....but it will make more power because its for your car not just an off the self...

maybe a little more

+1.....comp cams does custom ones too but i would try the jay allen first

I want to know out of all of these guys that are throwing names up which ones actually have experience dealing with these businesses?

No offence Darrell, but Ed's reputation precedes him. I have been around the Mustang community long enough to know he makes a great custom cam....and no, I am not building him up or getting paid by him, as I also think that Jay makes a great cam too! Those two are THE cam gods! You do know that don't you? Thousands and thousands of stangers can't be wrong! IMHO :D

You don't have to fire a gun to kill a man to know that the gun will do the job and do it good! Just have to do your research on which one is best. (I have). ~ again, no offence is meant by this ~
