Ok, I just bought a 302 on Ebay for a $1.00 ( yep 1.00 ) They guy i bought it from, said that it was from an 83 T-Bird. He wanted more power, and removed the stock heads and then installed HO heads. nothing else. Got her Started and she was spitting fire from the exhaust for about 3 feet. So he removed it, and sold it to me for a buck. Any help on what I need to do to this to solve the problem, maybe New Cam, will it need to be rebored? Like I said, any help would be greatly appreciated, oh how do I tell if it is a W or a C

All 302s are Windsors (W). The fire issue will need to be diagnosed. It could be as simple as a timing issue.

But with changing the heads, will there need to be other hardware modifications?
Shouldn't be but its such a major job and alot of unknowns, who knows what the guy did. It sounds like the ignition timing might be retarded.

He did claim that he had it to a mechanic, who stated that a new cam was needed to handle the larger valves? i dont know. Not a mechanic, just looking for possiabilities.
New cam to handle larger valves, that is a new one. I'd never go back to that mechanic. Possibly the cam timing is off, misadjusted valve train, plug wires like you said, ignition timing, etc. Start checking over things and take your time.

I would def. tear it down and freshen it up before using it
