Here are the trees/sunset. Didn't have quite the effect I was going for, but I'm still learning. These were with the Rebel XTi, btw, and not my S5.

And fwiw, OMU, stop thinking this is about one upping each other. I enjoy everyone's pictures, I don't care if they were shot with a disposable camera. lol

I'm not posting my pics cause I'm trying to prove I'm great at photography; I'll never be a photographer. :)

Yea, man. I'd be lucky to figure out how to turn it on, let alone get good pics out of it. I think Emay has an XTi also, so maybe he could offer some pointers.

how is the XTi set up?

do you have continuous focus on? it makes life a lot easier if you turn that off and also if you have a separate button for exposing ... that way you have a three button system... maybe its just the way i learned...

are those on your photo bucket? i want to see the photo descriptions for them... learn a little more about what your doing...

and also the flash throws shadows that you don't want in there... my advise is to leave it off so you don't have more distracting lines...

and you need a lens with more bokeh... that way your subject stands out a bit more :D

Yer. That water pic is gorgeous, btw.

Yeah I know how he pulls most of those off. Shutter speeds and a tripod. I just can't get either the S5 or her XTi outside on the tripod because of the damn weather. I can't wait for summer to try some real nice shots.

OMU, I've tried it both with continuous focus and manual focus.

And I shot some with flash and some without. Like I say, I was just playing around practicing. :)

I'll see if I can get the file info :)

oh and suck it up night shooting isn't bad at all... i have done it before ... the second week in January i went out and shot two girls ... me and my friend did... none of my pictures turned out cause i was using a crappy D1 something or other that i hated with a 300mm F 3.5 ... BOO!!

but there is a mode where you can set the focus and then move the subject in the frame and not have to re focus ...

i wouldn't say that its a different focusing mode... its just not one button mode... ya know?

like when i first got my camera it was amazing... take it out of the box and look at a subject and push the button ... everything was taken care of for me ... now i have it set up so that the AF button focuses it and the shutter button does not... that way i can move my focus point manually... all i have to do is focus on my cats nose then move the nose to the right and boom...

cats face is in focus... and everything else is smooth and none distracting... cept this was a horrible picture to refer to cause the cats nose just happens to be out of focus... same thing with the exposure... i have a "green button" as dubbed by pentax... you look at something expose to it then you can move the subject with in the frame but still have it exposed to that subject... its a really manual yet simple and automatic way to shoot if you ask me...

im not telling you to go screw your kids camera up ... just ask her about it... she will be like i dunno what he's talkin about OR ... yea thats how its set up your just not doin it right :D

I know the S5 doesn't allow a ton of options and **** but i wish there was more bokeh in the lens.. that way the background is way less distracting and really makes the subject that much more intense... like your lake picture RF... if the back ground were more blurry it would make the subject even more amazing
