I did my own taillights and they look great. I used the same black paint for the body of my car and reduced it down to about 60% of the consistency of what you'd spray on the body. Then I used an airbrush and did a light coat on my prepped taillights. Total I did 6 coats over 2 days and ended up with a translucent black taillight that looks OEM. I did my third brake light in the deck lid as well. I added a custom touch to my third brake light prior to painting. After I cleaned and prepped it I added a vinyl sticker of a band I like and painted over it. Now when I hit the brake pedal, this light shines around the sticker and it looks engraved in the plastic. I think I had $40 invested and a total of 8 hours work over 2 days. Plus I didn't have to use a cheap Chinese housing destined to fade and crack in the SoCal sun.

I would buy a can of VHT and just do them yourself and save. I bought some expensive ones from a guy on ebay (who does alot of them professionally) 2 yrs ago and they looked great till this spring when the coating started peeling off in one corner the size of a quarter. They are DARK.

+1 vht nightshades, people use it allllll the time. Did it to my oem taillights, and bought the ones from amerocan muscle.. long story short tho.... I grew up and realized having a tint of that reds is way slicker on my blacked out car. Too much is too much lol

Compare them to oem taillights ull notice, there dark red up close and smoked 10 feet away. It grew on me big time.

So it seems VHT is recommended. I wanted to stay away because I've heard of them being garbage but maybe they weren't done correctly. Ive seen the mustanggirl and will check them out.

1MeanNonPI2v, that sounds cool dude. I don't have the supplies or expertise though.

Thanks guys.

That link above is where I got mine. My opinion is if your gonna spend 150+ shipping you may as well do it yourself. Mine need redone after 2 yrs. Next set I'm gonna try my luck.

Those tails at smokedouttails look good but yeah as mentioned above 150+20 ship is massive. I think ill pickup the VHT supplies and have a fun project for myself.
I have a set of dark smoke from that seller. They have seen the outdoors for a total of a two weeks. I bought them for my car about 2 years ago and my car went into storage after 2012 Mustang Week. Send me a PM if interested.

Side note: my girlfriend has had the medium smoke ones (from that same guy) for about 4-5 years and they still look fantastic. No need to refinish and her car was a daily for most of the time she has owned them.

Best picture I have of one of them at the moment.
